believe me, I have had my share of issues at school... PJ Day just ain't one of 'em. For those who think it is cute or fun... go for it!

Just for the record. When DS was little, I always had a nice pair of PJ's made with his favorite theme, and he would wear them on PJ day. But, After 1st grade, he has NO interest in wearing PJ's to school. Just saves me the expense!!!

Are my dh and I the only parents on the planet that think PJ day in school is inappropriate, unless the child is 5 years of age or younger?? My DD10 is in 5th grade, and she had a meltdown because dh and I said what she wanted to wear was not appropriate. She was wearing sweats on the bottom (which was borderline ok, they are a bit form fitting), and she wanted to wear an undershirt or an old shirt that we don't let her wear out anymore, and DH and I both said no, you can wear a oversized t-shirt.

She has now missed Choir (an extra curricular ativitiy).

Why do these educators feel that pj's are appropriate for kids to wear to school????

My Son is in 5th grade now and has never
participated in any of those silly days.
Some of the pajamas that the girls wear
are questionable.
I think the schools should
do what they are supposed to do
"Educate our Children" and when I mean
educate, I don't me sex education.
The thing is the teachers also wear PJs.
This Grosses me out!!

The kids in my DDs high shcool wear PJ bottoms to school quite often, pajama day or not. Even the teachers sometimes do it on Fridays. I think it's weird but I guess there's nothing wrong with it especially considering the school condones it.

Mine too. I see the kids wearing the flannel pants and big t-shirts even whn it's not PJ day. (this is both high school and middle school). My kids wear the biggest baggiest clothes they can find to sleep in and that's what they go to school in those days. The high school still does PJ days during spirit week. My girls tend to wear camis under all their shirts so if they have on their big tees you can't see their chest through the arm holes.

there is nothing wrong with PJ day. We had it twice a year and it was always during homecoming. I looked at it as a break from our dresscode. We couldn't wear tanks, boxers, lingerie, or anything see through. t was always funny to see what type of characters people wore.

My kids' middle school banned pj day...seemed the kids were making it an "every Friday" event. My DD once wore outdoor-type flannel pants (when they were the style) to school, and I got a phone call saying to bring her another pair. I thought that was a little excessive, but in the interest of maintaining order, I did it.

I think as long as the clothes cover the body, expose no body parts that shouldn't be exposed, do not pose a distraction or a danger by printing or design...what is the big deal????

How ridiculous that you had to do that!

Unless the clothes are overtly distracting (meaning they disrupt learning in the classroom), it shouldn't be a problem. If I were a parent and got a call like this, I'd start to wonder what was being overlooked if all the school's energy was concentrated on catching pj wearers!

My kids schools have PJ day from Kind thru High school. I see nothing wrong with it it is fun and kids need to be able to have some fun in school, my goodness since the grumps have taken away all the holidays! What else is left for them. Most are more covered than normal. Even the teachers and principals dress in their jammies and robes and slippers.

For my DD's High school spirit week this year beyond the normal dress up days the had a dress like a Disney Character Day!

One kid wore a Disney plastic poncho from the parks,over his back pack with a guide map sticking out, and had sun stuff on his nose There were a lot of creative teens.

In the end PJ day is fun and it is harmless---must we over-analyze everything anymore?

DS's school does PJ day as well as "I Wish It Was Summer Day." I'm pretty sure most of the kids participate, all the way through 5th grade. Both days, though, come in the middle of winter, so my only problem is that the kids are at the bus stop wearing thin pants (or shorts!) when it's freezing outside.

He went to a different school for kindergarten, and they did PJ day in January and still took the kids outside for recess! Thank goodness DS was only in K, so they stayed in. His current school has indoor recess on these days.

DD will be in K next year, and I got a really cute set of purple, princess-ish, fleece jammies for next year when everything went on sale in Janaury!

I think it's fun, but I can see where the disagreement/meltdown this morning would have JoiseyMom pulling her hair out.

My son is in K this year and his school had one towards the beginning of the year. I was so paranoid about sending him in pjs that I actually drove him to school that day so that I could make sure everyone else was in pjs too. He wore his flannel spongebob pjs that were long pants and long sleeved. Perfectly appropriate. Now that I've seen it in action, I don't have a problem with it.

I think our elementary school does this. How sad that I don't know--my kids have never been interested in doing it though.

How much warning did you have about this day? Seems like the battle could've been stopped before it started if the pajamas had been approved a few days ago? Our schools give at least a week's notice before any event so it would've given me enough time to ask what they were planning to do/wear & act accordingly.

What does your DD wear when she sleeps at a friends house, or goes to camp? We use PJ day at school as an excuse to get new PJ's, it often falls in early Feb and all the good sales are on. The kids also get PJ's for Christmas, no raggy sleepwear in my photos please. So at any point in time they have 3 or 4 pairs of 'good' PJ's, 2 summer style, and 2 winter. DS needs a few more now as he has a 2 week camp this summer. My DD often sleeps in a t-shirt at home, DS in his boxers but we have a house rule that no one comes downstairs unless properly dressed, or in full PJ's. I don't care what they sleep in but I don't need you wandering around the house in it LOL.

DS13 walks a girl to school everyday and once in a while it's too cold so I drive him and pick her up. She blind so I never thought too much about wearing my PJ's to do so, but DS must have told her because the last time I drove she asked me if I was wearing PJ's again and which disney character was on them

I've always thought PJ days were fun, even when I was in school. I think it shows the kids that it's ok to think and do outside of the box every once in awhile. Gives some giggles.

Hindsight, you could have picked out her PJs the night before so the arguement about what she was going to wear was out of the way before morning.

I'm sure you're not the only one with the problem. I will say, all 4 of my kids love PJs. Even the boys. One of the best comforts in life for us is getting new PJs, a new book and climbing into fresh sheets to read together.

I was the same way. I did think the idea was strange at first, as I had never heard of it, but the kids enjoy it and you can dress appropriately. My son's school is K-8, and all grades participated. I did go out and buy DS flannel pajama pants and t-shirt though, as I didn't feel comfortable with him going in his snug Disney Store pajamas.

My high school did that too. I remember having hat & tie day, 70's day (hey, this was in the late 90's), dressy day (basically wear something dressy that you wouldnt normally wear to school), and color day (wear the color of your team). I know there were a few others in there but I can't remember what they were. Those days were fun. It was fun to see what some people found to wear.

We never had PJ day but probably because students wore their PJ's to school anyway. One of my friends used to wear her PJ pants to school at least twice a week because she would wake up late. I see nothing wrong with it, as long as you are still within the dress code.

We had dress up days every Fri during football season, kind of like you described. And every day during Spirit Week (week of homecoming) was a different dress up day. And I know they have PJ day at least once a year here at our local schools, but once you get to the middle/high school level, you have to pay like a dollar to be able to wear your PJs to school and all the money goes to a charity. Honestly, I don't see the problem with it. I see so many youngish girls (upper elem-middle school) wearing their PJs TO THE MALL that I guess this doesn't phase me at all.

I think it's pretty funny that people seem to think it's the TEACHERS who want PJ day! I've never met a teacher who actually looks forward to the day. These days are usually chosen by the STUDENTS on student council. I've always thought of them as days that the teachers are good sports about because they know some of the kids really enjoy it.

We have this 2x a year. Both times the children pay 1$ IF they want to wear pj's, and it goes to charity. We bring a nice cheque to the Montreal Children's Hopsital, and it is all for a great cause!!!!

I think it is fantastic, DD8 LOVES It, DS11 does not wear Pj's..Although he does contribute..

I think it is great..Teachers kids to help others at a young age, in a fun way

i don't think it's a big deal at all. It was nice when we had the day in HS, because we wore uniforms every day, so it was a nice break

However if there was an event like this in school, my parents wanted to see what i was wearing THE NIGHT BEFORE to avoid any meltdowns. If i forgot to show them, or didn't know, then it was my fault and uniform it was. If i didn't come down in what i had shown then, acceptable or not, uniform it was. If i had ever missed anything due to a meltdown, boy would there be heck to pay.

Do you think something inappropriate is going to happen just because they're wearing pajamas?

There are bigger things to worry about than childrens clothing.
