VENT! Major league baseball play-off times!!!!

Baseball games are no longer than football games.

Late national football games start at 8:30 or even later.

Im happy your husband thinks paying for tickets, parking and the hassle of sitting in traffic is ok to do to see 1/2 of a game.
Not ok here. DH already took a vacation day. I am leaving at 1pm and DS is getting out of school at 12:30.

This is a play-off game that our Pirates have not participated in, in 21 YEARS!!!! This is not some run of the mill non significant afternoon game.

Being a non fan I'm sure you cant understand that.

As someone stated also, this game time was not announced until late friday afternoon. Announce the times earlier so if arrangements need to be made, they can be.
DH and I are lucky we can take time off if need be. I know with some jobs that isnt the case so the tickets would need to be sold or go unused.

Now I hope the rain we're supposed to get is finished by game time.

Baseball certainly can run longer than a football game...there was a game recently here in Philly that started at 7:05 and did not end until way after midnight...I had two sets of friends who had to cut out early bc the young kids were just too tired and this was on a weekend I believe.

And there have always been day playoff games...my DH a million years ago would run home from school to catch the game, and DS did so when the Phillies won.

And they release the dates and times and soon as they can, when they can get it all set. There are more teams than just the Pirates to juggle and the TV revenue is important to MLB.

And no tickets go unused, people would sell them if the can't go or give them away...it is called life. DS would have LOVED to go to a playoff game, it wasnt in the cards, we tried. We went to the parade instead.

And I mentioned before our WS run was absolutey bizzare with weather, rain, snow, late games, a game stopped and restarted the next day(I think we might have set MLB history with that one, they dont usually allow that)

And yes I am a big Phillies fan...I think you are so caught up in the moment that you are frustrated with how this has been organized for years, decades.

Why do you say that? because of my comment about the length of a game or about missing the beginning of a long game?

I'm not a big baseball fan, but DH is. And he is a fan of a non local team. And he knows that Rangers playing at the Angels is not a valid reason for leaving work early, so he leaves when his workday is over, sits in LA traffic and tries to get there by the fourth inning. And is glad he got to go.

I say that because home games usually start at 7:30 and nobody ever complains about real people having to go to work in the morning. The only time it gets to be a problem is extra innings or rain delays. In fact, everyone I know generally can't stand day games. And who in their right mind wants to miss a few innings of a playoff game? .

See - I could tell you're not a big baseball fan. :)

Yes sorry I am!

When DH and I have to miss work and DS school , yes!

Will it deter me from going to the game ? Heck no!
Its a vent , sometimes people go on these boards to do that you know.

Its just something I didnt think about and now I know for future games. Because according to many pp's this is in no way new and has been happening for years.
When our buccos wrap up this series with the Cards monday, I know to just buy tickets for weekend games.

Just because I complain about start times doesnt make me any less a fan or any less ecstatic about how far our boys have gone.
I just wish they would stagger the games better like hockey and have all the games in the evening .

But as I said live and learn.
Most important thing we will be at PNC park Monday to cheer our boys to victory

Just an FYI but the Pirates wont have any home weekend games in the NLCS. But Game 3 will be definitely be a night game on 10/14. Of course depending that they actually win their series.

We're headed home . Pirates in 4.
Gonna be nice seeing our boys advance Monday afternoon, live and in person.

Or not!!!

You picked a great game to be at. Almost and no-hitter and a Cardinals victory.

What more could you ask for!?!?!

GO CARDS

So I am so incredibly happy that our Pittsburgh Pirates are in the play-offs for the first time in 21 years.

I bought tickets for Mondays game here at PNC park. The game time was just announced and its 3:07pm.

Seriously??? Do MLB people think us "real" people dont work?

I just texted my boss to see if I can leave early Monday. I seriously am not sure what she'll say. DH will have to take a vacation day and I'll have to pull DS early from school ( high school freshman)

I bought the tickets a few days ago from a resale ticket place. I paid about $30 per ticket over face value. I dont want to sell them because we want to go but really why cant the games be in the evening? Ridiculous!!!!!!

I would guess that the major determining factor for the timing of play off games is when the tv network can schedule them to air on tv. If there is more than one game in a day, they probably want to maximize the TV scheduling by having one afternoon game and one evening game. It's all about the tv money.

Yep. Football (both college and pro) trump the Division series even with big market teams and neither St. Louis nor Pittsburgh are big markets. The money is in the TV deal, not the ticket revenue and the TV money is bigger with football so baseball gets the leftovers. It's how it is. I have gone to every Indians home playoff game they've had since I graduated college and I knew when I bid for the tickets there was a good chance we would be a day game because we are also a small market. Had we won the wild card it would have helped us because Boston is a big market but I put my bid if for tickets and if that meant day baseball that is cool with me.

In all honesty I like day baseball, especially in the playoffs. I can get out of work for half of the day and I think baseball is better under the sun that under the lights anyway.

I work in Downtown Pittsburgh and usually leave work around 5:30. I was listening to the game and was thinking I would stay and listen to the end until the radio guy said "no one has left" in the 9th inning. Yikes, then it hit me that they would all be leaving at once and traffic would be a nightmare. I grabbed my stuff and left, got down to the car in the garage to hear the last out :(.

We ended up taking the T in.

Wasnt bad at all.

The loss really sucked though. I'll admit I'm a fairweather baseball fan, but my 15 yo DS has been watching the Pirates since he was a little boy. He loves them. He would tell me every year. They'll do it next year mom.
I wanted them to win so bad for DS. It would have been such a great experience for him.

We'll get them tomorrow and hopefully he'll get a chance to see another game.

Coming home was a nightmare. There was a fight in the train in front of us. We were stopped until it was resolved for almost an hour.
I understand things happen, but seriously? The driver was so nonchalant , saying oh no big deal , this happens all the time. Very frustrating. We didnt get off the T until almost 8pm. Then had to drive home.
I will definetly rethink what day I buy tickets for in the future. Ha ha

Go Buccos!

I just talked to Vito last night who is an umpire caretaker and he said if the Dodgers series ended then the game will be moved to 7pm here (central).

So what was the outcome?

....not to mention the thousands of people who won't get to watch it on tv since they will be at work/school....:confused3 But, congrats to the Pirates - really hope they make it to the World Series! :thumbsup2

....Dodgers clinched and move on....the Braves' season is officially OVER. :guilty:

October must be your least favorite time of year ;) Sorry, I know I'm a couple days late, but I still couldn't resist :goodvibes

Funny!

It feels to weird getting in on the good weathered jokes in October about baseball. I think seriously, is this for real?

We have our "jolly roger" flag flying off our deck.

The steelers are usually the lead story and now its everything Pirates!

We were at the playoff game yesterday and it was electric. I looked at my son and said are you sure we are at PNC park? It felt like a football atmosphere.
Even after the loss, people were still upbeat and happy. Just lovin' the Pirates have made it this far.

Win or lose tomorrow night , I hope this continues next year. We have a great manager and a great group of players.
Plus one of the best ballparks in all of baseball.

PNC really is a beautiful park - shame it isn't full more frequently. As you said, maybe it will be going forward :)

Oh yea we have a lot of RED OCTOBER in Saint Louis.

LOL to gumbo for his comment to carrie. I left that one alone however it did prompt me to post here.

CUBS VS CARDS is a longstanding rivalry. :wave2:

All I have to say is....

GO CARDINALS!

:cool1:

:cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1:

I'm so stressed right now, hoping they win tomorrow. Last night was a nail biter. I swear they are not happy unless they are in a high stress situation. They seem to do better then. I started to get tickets tomorrow because we can get up there for a day on a puddle jumper and fly back early the next since it's a later game. If it was an early game, we can do it all in one day.

Yep! When my cousin married a Cubs fan, my dad bought him a Cards ball cap as a joke wedding gift and insisted he wear it in one of the reception pictures. He was a good sport and did.
