Have you been in the job market very recently and I mean within the last year?

Yes, I was laid off at the end of spring. Made it though 4 rounds of layoffs only to be bitten in the very last go-round as the company trimmed our division's overhead to make it salable. My boss has vowed to bring me back on when the hiring freeze is over, but not holding my breath on that.

I'm not saying to rush a company into a decision. That's never a good sign that an employee is adaptable and will work well with others. It's not wise to put all of one's eggs into one basket and if there's a recruiter involved as a go-between that's exactly what they'll do: they'll keep telling you for weeks it's looking good hang in there. Give them a couple weeks, get back in touch with the hiring manager, ask them how it's going and reiterate that you'd really love to work with them but you are still interviewing.

I would not be any hurry to "light a fire under them" unless she doesn't mind not getting the job. My DH very recently went back to work and the company he is with took over 4 months from first contact till he was given a written offer. The other company he had an offer with took about the same amount of time. The company he was hired with he had 3 phone interviews, a day long session with interviews by 6 peop0le and was called back in twice. the other company had 1 less phone interview and i believe 1 less go back interview.

Sounds like Disney IT's interview process and time frame.

I had a contract that was terminated early back in January of this year for budget reasons. At the time, Charlotte was really dead and within a week of not hearing back from people, I was lining up interviews in other states. I don't do 'idle' very well and don't really wait around for anyone. By the end of my second week out of work, I had in-person interviews lined up with 2 companies out of state and 1 in town. The two out of state were direct-hire and the one in town was contract-to-hire. Aside from paying more, the in-town company has good people working for it (thanks to linkedin to let me research that by seeing who had worked with people I know). 2 months ago, I went perm with that company and even negotiated 4 weeks of vacation per year to start. All told, I was out of work for about 2 1/2 weeks.
Granted, results will definitely vary depending on location and career field, but I'm not one to wait around long for a company to get back to me...If they wait more than a couple of weeks I've probably already taken another job.

There is a fee to file a job posting on Craigslist. It's how they make money.

CL job postings are free here in Las Vegas. My employer uses them all the time.

I'm right there with you. I'm currently looking, but I have a job (that I hate, hence why I'm looking.) I'm not looking for something that is going to pay more, and realize I'll probably have to settle for a little less because of the way the economy is right now. But it drives me crazy how many ads don't list a salary range and during the interview it's revealed...and it's $10g+ less than what I'm getting paid now. I can't do that. If I knew ahead of time a salary range, I wouldn't have applied and wasted both our time. Drives me up a wall.

My Mom is a manager and posted an ad for the job she was hiring at. She DID post the salary and she had people coming in looking for $10g more! If it's not the right salary, why apply??

Craigslist is just a bad place to look for work, I think. I know keeping up with it is a necessary evil with so many companies taking the "free" route rather than using traditional newspaper classifieds, but so many of the people on there are just looking for bottom-dollar! Our local one tends to be ad after ad ad that say things along the lines of "bachelor's degree required, master's preferred, minimum 5 years experience" or "journeyman plumber, own tools, truck, and insurance" followed by a single-digit hourly wage.

I had a phone screening today too - this same job is one I came close to interviewing for over 3 years back, but I canceled the interview when i took my last job. Seems the position was put on hold for THREE years because they couldn't find the right person and here it is again... from what I'm hearing from my screening, this job fits my goals and experience like a glove and she didn't bat an eye when I told her the salary I need. Too excited to even think of it working out.

Also have another lead for another company: a financial firm in Boston. I'll be talking with them tomorrow. I love it when all the hard work starts to pay off.

I TOOK THE JOB!!!!


LOL, the pay is less than what I was making at my last job( not by much though), BUT.....if all goes well I get a raise in 3 weeks (that is after the training period) and again in 90 days, another after 6 months and another after a year. So after 6 months I will be making more than my last job. I also get commission on any products I sell.

So it wasn't a total loss, I do just wish they would have told me from the beginning the salary.

I have another interview schedule for Weds that I need to cancel. Another posting with no salary. Not going to bother.

Congrats! 99% of the Craigslist postings here are scams. It is so frustrating because the job market here is terrible.
