Have you been in the job market very recently and I mean within the last year?
Yes, I was laid off at the end of spring. Made it though 4 rounds of layoffs only to be bitten in the very last go-round as the company trimmed our division's overhead to make it salable. My boss has vowed to bring me back on when the hiring freeze is over, but not holding my breath on that.
I'm not saying to rush a company into a decision. That's never a good sign that an employee is adaptable and will work well with others.
It's not wise to put all of one's eggs into one basket and if there's a recruiter involved as a go-between that's exactly what they'll do: they'll keep telling you for weeks it's looking good hang in there. Give them a couple weeks, get back in touch with the hiring manager, ask them how it's going and reiterate that you'd really love to work with them but you are still interviewing.
