Vent -- Do I have the right to be mad?

I have had a vacation booked for almost a year to go with my horrible inlaws. Guess what I just found out. My brother and law and sister-law just backed out and left me holding the bag. First of all, they asked if we could back up our vacation, as well as, everyone else involved so that they would be able to go too.. Well I wasn't happy but I did it anyway. And so did the other family members involved. Well I reserved the accomodations on my credit card and figured that was that. Well three weeks ago unknown to me , my brother in-law and sister in-law back out of the deal. Thus leaving me to deal with the mess. I just found out today. So I called my sister in-law. I asked her if it would of been to much to ask for a phone call since she knew I was the one to make all of the arrangements( well let me tell you never again). I reminded her that inaddition to making all the arrangements we also rearranged 6 working people schedules to accomodate them. Not even so much as an I am Sorry.


Does anyone think a phone call three weeks ago, when they decided not to go would of been to much? I think something like that should of not been left for this to get to me second hand.

From now on I am not planning a vacation with anyone but my husband and my three children.

That is horrible. I hope everything works out. Probably better that they aren't going anyway. Sounds like they *might* have been a problem to deal with while actually there.

You will probably have more fun without them anyway. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise. I would let it go and let this be a lesson learned. Never again. You and your family go and have a blast.

Yes you have a right to be mad. I hope it is not too late that deposits will be lost but if that is the case I would demand they pay you back. Otherwise, enjoy the fact they will not be with you and next time they ask everyone to change thigs for their benefit remind them about this one.

Well what could he say. It wasn't his fault his brother is a pain in the back side.

But i have decided I am going to be mad about it today. However, to give them any more thought on it after that would not do me any good nor would it change anything. I just want the right to be mad, vent, and then move on. Pretty much like everyone else. I guess.

Learn a lesson.

If you make travel arrangements for anyone other than your own immediate family(you,DH,kids), get THEIR credit card and put it directly on that, rather than putting it all on your CC and then collecting later.

That way, if they back out and deposits cannot be returned, the cost is on their CC, not yours.

We have friends who travel with us frequently, and after one trip we waited several months to get paid back. Since then, if we travel with them, I get their CC # and charge plane fare, hotel gaurantee fees etc directly to their own card.

Makes people think twice before backing out if they know they take the hit.

If the person doesn't want to give you their CC #, then give them your itinerary and let them make their own plans. If they don't make them, they don't go, and it's no one's fault but theirs.
