Venetian blinds warning (SAD!)

You know how you're told to cut venetian blind cords when you have small children? Well, please cut the cords (or keep them up really high) when you have pets too.

My brother and SIL went away for their anniversary and left their 2 cats at home. They left Friday and came back today. Upon their return, they found their kitten Lola strangled by a venetian blind cord. I guess she was playing with the blinds and managed to become entangled...and she was unable to get herself out. My brother and SIL are absolutely besides themselves with grief. They keep blaming themselves. But really...how many of us think of these things? When my dd was a baby, I made sure to cut the cords, but I had cats before and never even thought of that.

That is soo sad. You're right. I thought about it for my kids but never for my cat.

Poor thing.

I've only got one set of blinds in my house and I make sure the cord is out of reach. Fortunately, it's a high up bathroom window and my old cat can't jump that high and the younger cat is now too fat to jump that high but I still worry and make sure it's hanging over the shower door.

Oh that's so sad! I was going to jump up and take care of mine when I remembered that my two cats already chewed them off, along with several of the blind blades. Guess they were in the way of peeking out the windows.

How sad! I am glad we have verticals in most of our windows and dont have to worry about it. In the one window we have venetians, I have the cord tied badk for my son. I really never thought about my cat getting into it though.

That is so sad! I never have thought about it with my animals, just my kids. Our house is brand new, and I spent the little bit extra for my new blinds to be cordless! Worth every penny!
