Veggie races?

The Mickey 500. You make race cars out of potatoes and carrots and race them on a track. We did it on the Magic a few years ago. I don't remember if it was offered on the Wonder last year. DD didn't want to do it (she lost in the finals the last time we did).

I know they had it on the Wonder in Dec 2011.

We did it on the Dream in January. They had it on the Fantasy in August but we didn't make it!

It was offered multiple times on the Magic last Summer. It was in Rockin' D Bar in the afternoon

We did it on the Fantasy last June...such a blast!

So, the space is limited, so get there early.

The CMs will introduce the task, which is to build a "car" out of a potato and a carrot. They will probably insist that the design is the kid's the parents are the "builders".

Then, you carve your veggies into a shape, and stick in nails with wheels, and they are raced down a track. It is hilarious! Our "princess crown" potato did not do so well, but that didn't dampen our spirits in the least!

Still offering on the Fantasy in March. DS wanted to participate but we missed seeing it the first time and then for second time, he was confined to the cabin due to gastro :-(. Some of friends participated twice.

what is kinda funny about this thread is this:

when we took our first cruise (see countdown tag below) I tried to get as much information as possible about this from the disboards. I had to beat info out of the members- - - - wellllll, maybe not quite that bad......but there was very little interest in the Mickey 500 then


NOW there is a deluge of responders and past participants. It makes me happy that I am not the only square who prefers doing silly stuff with the kids (in this case DGD age 6) than sit by the pool with the Conch Cooler (which I liked, by the way)....

when we did it i thought there was an age range limit.....

if not, and since there is such limited space, i would hate to see adults clogging up the works and some kid getting turned away..

We didn't see the veggie races but we did see the hermit crab races on the island.

#2 swore her crab was dead.



Edit: It wasn't, of course. The CM made sure they knew it wasn't. He even put theirs close the finish line. Didn't matter. Crab did not feel like moving that day! So funny.

my DGD LOVES...i mean LOVES...crab races . She spent vacations on St Croix and they were regulars at the races there.......FUN!!!
