Vegetarian food

What's wrong with gelatin?

Gisele, really? A thread about vegetarian food and you wonder what's wrong with gelatin?

I will admit though, I do have gelatin, but only in the form of my Flintstone vitamin every morning. I know I can find other vitamins that doesn't have it in there, but after an allergic reaction when trying to switch one time, I don't stray away from the Flintstones w/ Iron vitamins.

You know those are formulated for children, right? It's not formulated for an adult; not sure you're getting much of use from them. I'm quite sure there are plenty of vitamins out there formulated for adults that would suit you better. Have you seen a nutritionist or a naturopath to try to find a terrific vitamin that would work better for your adult needs?

For the short time when I've ever been anemic (my iron has traditionally been better than any of my meat-eating friends' levels) I used liquid Floradix for iron, which is an incredibly bio-available source. On the spendy side but it worked!

Every single time I go to Blue Bayou I get the vegetarian entree - the portobello mushroom with corn and couscous maque choux. I'm not a vegetarian - I just ordered it the first time I ate there and absolutely love it.

At Award Wieners there's a dish that I'm pretty sure is vegetarian - it's sautéed portobello mushrooms served in a hot dog bun. It was very tasty. Maybe I was a vegetarian in another life because I keep ordering that one, too!

If you're at a buffet (Goofy's Kitchen, PCH Grill breakfast, etc.) ask your server to point you towards the vegetarian options. At dinner GK has a good salad bar with a lot of fresh veggie options, with fruits too.

It's been years since I ate at House of Blues, but the last time I was there it was with my vegetarian sister-in-law and she commented that their menu had a large number of veggie options, mostly salads and pastas.

Yeah, I know it's for kids, but it does the job and doctor is more than ok with it. Been taking it for years and years. I couldn't take prenatal vitamins, but needed something. That's been forever ago (all my kids are teen). It was a whole yucky domino process when I tried switching which also resulted in me finding out I couldn't take steroids to combat the rash from vitamins (this was after kids) Couldn't breath, & couldn't walk out to my car without taking breaks to try to catch my breath. This scared me badly enough that I'm content with sticking to what I know.

Thanks for that! We really want to go, but were undecided because lack of options.

There's also veggie pizza at pizza port in tomorrowland.

Is it good, like the good wood fire pizzas, or more like Pizza Hut? We eat pizza at least once a week or more. I mean pizza is pizza, but some is better than others.

I'm assuming that Gisele didn't know that gelatin is not vegetarian, giving her the benefit of the doubt. I didn't know that gelatin was made from animals until I started dating someone who is vegan.

Being vegan is hard! I did it for one year solid. Healthiest I've ever been, but I missed cheese something fierce.

Truth be told, I'm not a vegetarian for strictly ethical reasons. I've been vegetarian twice in my life, once as a teenager (for a couple of years), and now. Yeah, when I was a teen, I did it for ethical reasons. Now is for more health reasons. I only liked red meat when I did eat it. Hated chicken, fish & pork. Well, that all stopped cold turkey when colon cancer decided to run rampant in my family killing my grandmother, great uncle, and giving my brother a scare. I did some research, and heredity plays a part, but red meat doesn't help. That's been almost a decade ago and I've not touched the stuff since. I'd like to be for only ethical reasons, but seriously, I just don't want to go out like they did.

The pizza in the park is terrible, if you eat pizza at home, skip it, or get some delivered to your room. The pizza at Pizza Port and Boardwalk is not made on fresh dough, it's pre-baked dough. The flat bread at Village Haus is alright, but they may have changed it when they got rid of the flat breads at Boardwalk recently. There is a small personal pan pizza at Daisy's in Toontown, but it's not any better than the Pizza Hut mini pizza you can get at the snack counter at Target. Not exactly what I'm looking for if I'm spending my money for lunch at Disney. Though it is probably the best vegetarian option in Toontown.

Ugh. Yeah, I think we can go without. Thanks!

Try the Pizza Press on Harbor across from the parks. They make the pizza in front of you, giving you your choice of toppings (generous!). It is yummy pizza, fresh, and the staff is super friendly.

Is it walking distance? I don't think we're renting a car until maybe last day to go to Magic Mountain, if open.
