Vegetarian food

Hi

After a few trips to WDW I have found good vegetarian food to be very think on the ground. Does anyone know of any places that are good - on or off resort Im not fussy. DH is a carnivore but eats veggie stuff, but somewhere that did both would be great.

Sweet Tomatoes off I Drive but other than that I agree it's actually very hard to find choice.

Crystal palace at MK is pretty good, they do lovely salads, pizza, pasta etc.

I would say Crystal Palace in MK - cause they have a good choice, as a family we all eat meat but one weekend a month we try to eat vege and try out lots of new dishes.

Tempura-kiku in Japan does a lot of vegetarian dishes such as deep fried vegetables, vegetable maki rolls, oshinko (pickled vegetables), steamed rice etc.

Sweet Tomatoes is good

On-site, I can usually find plenty to eat at any of the buffets - I especially enjoy Boma's in AKL and Cape May Clam Bake at the Beach Club (yes, I know it's called a clam bake, but there are lots of salads and vegetables and desserts!)

I enjoy the buffets at WDW allows me to pick and choose. I have enjoyed meals at Boma's, Yacht Club Galley and Citrico's too.

This is quite a good site. My DH and my eldest DD are both Vegi,they also dont eat fish
I must admit,they didnt go hungry...Sweet Tomatoes is their Fav off site.

CP at MK was their fav character buffet.

My bf is veggie and we've chosen these places to eat at:

Jiko
California Grill
Hollywood Brown Derby (most signature restaurants are very accomodating of vegetarians which is one reason we've chosen 3)
Le Cellier
Boma (twice)
Kona Cafe
Crystal Palace (probably the best onsite buffet for veggies aside from Boma and certainly the best character meal)
Akershus (going to ask for meat to be plated separately for me =)
50's Prime Time
Beaches and Cream

We're also eating offsite at Olive Garden and The Cheesecake Factory as both have plenty of vegetarian choices We'd like to eat at Sweet Tomatoes aswell but i'm not sure if we'll have the room

I've only eaten on site once or twice and haven't visited any of the restaurants you've mentioned - I think I will have to find their menus and start planning our munching!

The joys of the free dining plan! We probably wouldn't have chosen so many TS places otherwise, some are breakfasts though so i'm hoping we won't explode after the first week

I know that feeling - too many places to eat, too little time! (I love my food!!)

Firstly, a not-so-known fact is that every restaurant in Disney has at least one veggie option, but it isn't always displayed on the menu. That said, some places are better than others. My favorites are (in no particular order): The veggie platter at the CS in Morocco; the veggie sandwich at Tuskers in AK; the veggie option at the Lotus Blossom CS in China; and Sci-Fi in MGM who have a whole list of veggie food (you have to ask for it though, I don't think any of the main courses listed on the normal menu are veggie). I went to Mama Melrose a few years ago on the Fantasmic plan, and they said that they could do up any item on the menu as a veggie option; my sister and I had to fight back the urge to ask for a veggie steak .

Wow thanks for this - that really is useful info to have. I'm a bit of a wimp normally so if it's not on the menu I would never has the courage to ask for something different but now I know this , who knows!

The experiences I have had in FLorida when asking for veggie food is the waiter saying 'yes we do have vegetables' - WITH the chicken etc

Don't worry, Disney are great about food, whether it's food intolerances or special diets like us veggies. If there's anywhere you and your husband want to eat, even if it doesn't have a veggie option listed, do go ahead and ask; Sci-Fi has a whole menu of veggie things, but it's not displayed outside and you can't get it until a server comes to your table (or should I say 'car').

I'm not sure whether the 'every restaurant' rule applies to external companies that have places on property (such as Rainforest Cafe, McDonald's, etc), so watch out for that one. I know I once went into Rainforest in DTD, said I was veggie and was asked if I ate fish, chicken or steak (because, as we all know, the steak plant grows in great abundance in Florida); when I said no to all of these I got a look that was somewhere between "how do you survive?" and "why is it my problem that you don't eat real food?". Oh well, at least good old Disney is there for us!
