How is the availability of vegetarian options at Disney Restaurants? I'm a vegetarian and I would like to know what to expect...hopefully I don't get the answer I got when I asked for vegetarian options at McDonalds...

A very scruffy and tired..."Fries...":rotfl2:

I TOTALLY Believe that there is NO BETTER place to vacation than WDW when you have special dining needs....

In 2008.... I dealt with 3 teens.... DS "Somewhat Picky" .... DSD 1 'VERY PICKY" (doesn't eat veggies, thinks chocolate is a food group) and DSD2 "Newly vegetarian"....

So I perused menus at length... and was delighted to find MANY options at WDW...

There are vegetarian options at EVERY dining facility.. you're going to have more options (I feel) than anywhere else you could vacation...

Have a magical visit !

WDW is awesome for vegetarians. Better than McD's (although at McD's you can have a salad, or a fruit 'n' yogurt, but don't eat the fries, they are NOT vegetarian!) Each establishment will have at least one veg option for you; some are better than others. I highly recommend checking out the menus ahead of time for options. One of my favorites, though, is the Lighthouse Sandwich at Columbia Harbor House (Magic Kingdom) -- Broccoli Slaw and tomato on multigrain bread, yum! That is one of the standouts, but there are lots of other goodies, too!

I second the above posts. There are so many dining posts I could link here but just type "vegetarian at Disney" on a search engine and you'll see BOATLOADS of dining reports.

To give you some examples, though:

Most resort foods courts: cheese pizzas/flatbreads, sushi, salads, lo mein, lasagna, breadsticks, veggie burgers and fries, and, of course, most desserts and sides (with the exception of the rice krispy treats and zebra domes, etc. which have gelatin)
Most CS: veggie burgers/wraps/sandwiches/subs

You'll have the best luck at the TS restaurants and buffets for finding diverse meals. Even the meatiest of Disney restaurants, Le Cellier and Yachtsman, have great vegetarian options.

Some of my favorite choices at TS:
-50's Primetime: spaghetti and nutballs
-Sanaa: vegetarian sampler and samosas
-Boma: African/Indian buffet and Crystal Palace: Mediterranean-based buffet and Tusker House: smaller scale Boma
-Boatwrights: vegetarian jambalaya
-ESPN Club: veggie sandwich and cucumbler salad
-Coral Reef: veggie/potato strudel

Some of my favorite choices at Signatures:
-Citricos: tofu dish
-Jiko-chakalaka
-California Grill-flatbreads

I am so disappointed that the rice krispy treats have gelatin. This is our first trip to Disney as pescatarians (as a transition to vegetarians).

Guess I'd rather know and not eat them, than not know and unknowingly eat them.

You should have no trouble finding tons of great veggie options all around the world! I've been to WDW several times as a vegetarian, as well as w/ a vegetarian child, and we have found deleicious options everywhere. This thread has lots of great info for you:

If you input vegetarian on the search bar on this main Disney Restaurants forum her, you'll find lots of related threads and info. We had a food photo thread going a while back, but I can't seem to locate it now- can anyone else find that link?

I have to say Disney is pretty darn good about the food options. They definitely accomodate to any type of food allergies and special needs such Vegan, vegetarisn, diabetics, etc.

I suspect things we'll be better than you'd think.:thumbsup2

That's awesome!

I do remember starving at Disney when I was a kid...because I was picky, and my parents were picky about what I could have. So, some places I ended up eating bun and ketchup for lunch (At Germany). Other places, there was plenty to eat, because I'm a tomato or pasta fanatic. So, Rainforest Cafe was my favorite restaurant.

Now, I'm just he ultimate paranoid first timer. I'm a picky eater anyways and I'm a vegetarian on top of it..so I was paranoid that I would be starving the whole weekend. Thanks for clearing that one up. lol :worship:

Another thing, at the value resorts, is there anywhere that you can buy fruit? I eat a TON of fruit and we're going to be there for almost 2 weeks. So, I don't want to bring a bunch of fruit to spoil.

*Off to Search for the Food Pictures Thread*

There is a lot of discussion in the disABILITIES Forum related to vegetarian dining or those one restricted diets. However, if you go here you will see one Disney restaurant's completely vegetarian menu.
