Vegas - which hotel?

One note on the Flamingo. On the Tripadvisor forum for Las Vegas some one mentioned that there was a huge billboard picture of Toni Braxton hung up at the Flamingo that was blocking the strip views from the rooms. It was actually covering up the windows, not complete lack of light, but not the view you want. I don't know if this correct but you might want to check it out. I would hate to have my heart set on a beautiful view and see the back side of Toni Braxton instead!

It's more like a window wrap - I'll attach a pic I took of it. It's irritating none the less, but the slots were loose when we were at the Flamingo so I wasn't complaining about the giant irritating Toni too much :teeth:

Going for the first time in November! We chose the Bellagio. Good luck!

You will love the Bellagio. We stayed there 2 years ago and LOVED it. Of course I had to have the room with the view of the fountain. They had the music piped into the room via the TV so I could see the water dancing and hear the music.

My favorite part, I could open and close the curtains while in bed. Had buttons on the wall that would take care of that.

Have a blast!

Stayed at the 3 of your choices multiple times, I would get the one with the cheapest rate. Especially if it is your first time in Vegas. Once you go a couple times and start deciding for yourself what part of the strip you like best.

I actually love to stay at the HILTON, off the strip. I could stay in the sport book/poker room all day, but with Paradise blvd I never have to deal with strip traffic. I can get to any hotel on the strip within minutes. Also it has a Monorail stop.

NYNY has a loud rowdy feel to it 24/7. Not sure your ages but it might not be the best choice though they have some great bars and my favorite piano bar in vegas, the bar at times square.

I have stayed at luxor and I like it ok. I will stay there for free on an offer, and they usually put me in the tower rooms which are gorgeous.

TI has awsome rooms, it is usually just a bit more to upgrade to a petite suite which are awesome. It's location for me, closer to the Wynn and Caesars my 2 favorite casinos would hsve me choose TI over the others.

We do have the lakeview room! I heard it was great so I booked it. I can't wait to watch it from my room. The curtains sound great too! LOL!

My husband and I are going next September to celebrate my retirement. We are thinking of staying at the Mirage.... anyone been there? Opinions.... good .. bad.. We definitely want to stay on the "strip" since it is our first visit and thought mid strip would be good. We plan on seeing Love which is I believe, at the Mirage. Thanks for your advice.

I have always liked the Luxor. I have been to Vegas many many times, and was married there, to boot (at Bellagio). I have probably stayed at the Luxor the most times. I have stayed at all levels of hotels, including Luxor, Bellagio, Paris, Aladdin (now Planet Hollywood), and the Hilton Convention Center.

Of all the hotels listed, my favorite was Aladdin. The location is great (central to the strip), the option to not walk through the casino to get to a cab is nice, but if you walk to the strip, the casino is not that large, so that walk isn't bad either! then there are the Desert Passage shops right there for shopping, entertainment, and restaurants. I obviously can't speak to the decor or the service since the changeover to Planet Hollywood, but the things I liked about the hotel had to do with layout and proximity, and that hasn't changed.

I agree that where you stay on the strip (North, Center, South) doens't matter as much thanks to the monorail. But it helps to stay at a hotel that is close to a monorail station, or at least on the same side of the strip. A "block" in Vegas is a LONG walk. ;)

I like gambling at Paris the best. We are not big gamblers, you see. Our favorite thing is to plop down at a poker slot machine, let the drinks come while we enjoy the sounds of the house music. Paris has a lovely lighting scheme, and their bands are just wonderfully entertaining! As for staying there, we felt the hike back to the hotel elevators from the strip was enough to make us disinterested in staying there again.

Bottom line: it's hard to go wrong with the "popular" hotels. It's really up to how you like to spend your time.

I've stayed at TI....*very* nice. I'd love to stay in Paris!

I was at Bellagio last week. Actually, we were given a free upgrade to a HUGE suite overlooking the fountains. It was unbelievable. A once in a lifetime experience.

You will LOVE watching the fountains from your room. It's fantastic.

Have fun!

The Mirage is wonderful - you can have a fantastic stay there. Below are a couple things to keep in mind. (Note most of the major resorts in Vegas are wonderful. These discussions aren't about good vs bad, but about great vs 'more great')

Reasons for the Mirage:

1) Spectacular Pool
2) LOVE is at the Mirage (great show BTW) and it's always nice to just go up to your room after a show

Reasons against the Mirage:

1) The Mirage was the first hotel built in the recent wave. They've been building hotels with bigger and nicer rooms since then. It's still priced as one of the top hotels in town; you can get better rooms for the same money.

2) The Mirage gets a ton of foot traffic and has a convoluted layout. I find it really annoying to get in and out of the place when staying there.
