We were thinking of driving from Vegas to Disney land. Is this a reasonable thought? The drive looks to be about 5 hours. Has any one done this?Is it a pleasent drive? any tips?

We do all the time! Its an easy drive, very easy, but it does get a bit boring for a little while. Its actually about a 4 and half hour drive giving how long a break takes. I would take a break in Barstow at the Lenwood exit it has everything and its easy to find places to eat. Once you hit barstow its a better scenic view. But between Prim and Barstow it gets very boring.

Two things to keep in mind.

It can get some time to get out of Vegas dues to construction on the south/west side of I-15 when you are leaving. Not much but a little slow to get going unless it's early in the morning.

If you happen to be thinking of a Sunday, leave early. Around 10am of after you will be stuck in slow traffic as the crowd makes its way back to LA. Traffic jams in the middle of no where are not fun.

Otherwise I make it to Anaheim in about 3.5 hours drive time.

Traffic can be horrific. Last year, the Sunday after Thanksgiving, it took us 8 hours to get from Vegas to Anaheim....a normally 4 hour drive. :scared1:

We did it once and it was super easy. Hoping the same is true on December 30th. I'm a little nervous because of the holiday but my thought is that most people will be going to Vegas not leaving Vegas for the weekend.

We leave early early in the morning. Around 4 am, so not much traffic going out at that time.

We just did Denver-Anaheim, which includes Las Vegas to Anaheim :rotfl: Anyway- it was an easy drive. You go through the Mojave desert which in early Oct. was 102 degrees! It is a pretty straight shot- very easy.

It's 3.5 to 4 hours for most, roughly 260 miles and 70 mph speed limit most of the way. It is an easy drive, but for the most part boring. Barstow is the unofficial half way point and a popular stopping point. Another one is Baker, about an hour outside Vegas. Just look for the "World's largest thermometer."

As a couple people said, you must take into account traffic patterns, or the drive will be much longer. You would be surprised about how many cars there can be in the middle of nowhere. Do not drive to from Vegas to So Cal on Sunday or after a major holiday weekend. Also time it so you do not hit So Cal during rush hour traffic.

the only other thing I would mention is if you make the drive during the winter, be aware of weather conditions. It can snow through the Cajon Pass.

Hello! We did this trip on October 2 -5 of this year. I agree with the other people - to leave early. We left Vegas early Sunday morning (before 7:00 a.m.) and arrived at Disneyland at about 11:30 a.m. We rested at Barstow.
We left on a Wednesday morning. It took much longer to drive back because of the heavy downpour.

Have fun!!!

I almost allways make it 3 and a half hours, unless we stop. Its not too bad, I find it boring because I do it so often, but if its new scenery its not too bad.

I used to live about 20 mins from Disney..i now live in Vegas, 3 and a half hrs away. The drive isn't all that bad..but then again my bf does all the driving lol. We usually grab Mcd or something in town so we don't have to stop. But if we do end up stoping we usually grab mcd or some sort of fast food on the way like in Barstow. Most of the time we eat in the car, very little do we eat in. Even with the minor pit stop, it still takes us 3.5 hours. We are making the trip after work tomorrow, about 5pm which does suck for vegas traffic because of rush hour. We did go to disney last month, and we left about 12 or 1 on Labor Day. It took us 6 hours to get to Anahaeim..There was traffic EVERYWHERE. Just don't do the drive on a holiday or the day after a hoilday just because Vegas is a full of tourist who come out to celebrate the holidays so they all head home the same day.

As someone has already said, watch out for CHP. We usually go 70-75mph but we have a radar detector and it always goes off meaning there is an officer near by with his radar gun. Also, there are Officers on the 15 in vegas. a couple years ago, an officer got us as we were leaving town, (of course i didn't have my detector then) and we were going like 75 in a 55 or something like that and it was a 500$ ticket. so yes, watch your speed and watch for cops. But with no problems, its an easy 3.5 mile drive. Just bring some music with you and you will be fine :]

I agree. Sunday traffic from Vegas to LA sucks! Otherwise the drive isnt bad at all. Not much to look at, but not bad.

Gas can be very expensive in Barstow. If you can make it, fill up in Primm and go straight through, or try to push it to Victorville.

I agree. Gas in barstow is a nightmare. We always stop in Victorville at the Costco. We live a couple hours on the far side of vegas from DLR so we usually stop in Primm for the bathrooms (clean at Terribles!) and Victorville for gas. Ok. And the bathrooms. I have a very patient and long suffering DH.

Thanks for the info Amy :) We'll keep this tip handy for our drive from Denver to Disney in December. My poor DH :sad2: 3 girls in the car with him, we need to stop at least every 2 hours ;)

We are traveling the opposite way going from Disney to Vegas on a Wednesday at the begining of December. I assume it will not be too bad. Made the drive years ago on a business trip.

LOL,
I drive from Reno to DL and it is totally worth the effort.
