Please think twice before bringing your kids to Vegas for a "family" vacation.

I have never seen so many kids as I did this past weekend (and I go often).

Yes, there are some "family friendly" activities but please, think twice before bringing your kids there and dragging them around at 11pm so you can get the full Vegas experience.

Vegas is Disneyland for adults. If you do bring your kids, don't get mad at the adult club fliers littering the streets, the adults drinking out on the streets, the adults swearing and adults generally having a good time. And don't get mad at your kids when they are bored out of their mind.

I'll agree that one shouldn't combine a kid's/family vacation with adults-only activities.

But the kids shouldn't be bored in Vegas. Swimming pools, wave rides, an Amusement park and midway at Circus Circus, The NYNY Arcade and Rollercoaster, more pool time, the Children's Discovery Museum, the Natural History Museum, The classic LV ballpark, the dolphin habitat the Mirage, the lion cub habitat at MGM, the flamingos & penguins, the behind-the-scenes aquarium tour at the Forum Shoppes, a hike in Red Rock Canyon, a trip to Valley of Fire, a day trip out to Zion National Park, a picnic at Floyd Lamb State Park, the Hoover Dam (wonder of the world)....Lake Mead Recreation area....and every kid's favorite THE LAS VEGAS MINI GRAND PRIX !

There was lots of kids there last weekend when we went and I cannot beleive what they were exposed to.

First driving up and down the strip all day long is trucks with bill boards on them depicting women dressed rather skimpy. Ok thats not so bad.

Then look at the brochures they were handing out on every sidewalk around. I ignored them but could not avoid seeing what was on them. Some were even poked into a fence like a mural of pictures and some of the pictures had naked ladies with the only thing covering them was a star on the upper parts and what their finger covered on the bottom paar. It was pretty nasty to me.

I know there are lots of things for kids to do and if you must take them you can certainly entertain them. Just know you cant shield all the soft porn if you plan to leave your hotel room.

Wow we just got back from 7 wonderful days in Vegas, of course I had everyday planned just like one of our Disney days. The kids were never bored. We hit Adventuredome, the Midway at Circus Circus, Secret Garden, Shark Reef, Luxor, NYNY, MGM Studios and lots of other casinos and attractions. We spent a lot of time in the lazy river at the Mandalay Bay. I would recommend Vegas to families its a great value vacation.

We were sitting down to make our Christmas vacation plans, I was thinking sunny Manzanillo, the kids want to go back to Vegas.

We go to Vegas 6 times a year at least *sometimes more if we can swing it* and while it isn't particularly family friendly you CAN make it family "doable". There are ways to avoid all of the "adult" actions but it takes planning and determination.

There are plenty of things to do WITH kids in Vegas but the parents have to be willing to forgo their adult type activities to do so. The major problem...... Parents not figuring out how to make it child doable!

We've taken our kids there *only for a night on the way home from DL when we were too tired to continue driving* and on day trips there and we've been able to avoid almost everything by being proactive parents.

You can do it it just takes work!

We have taken our DD's, 15 and 11 to las vegas twice....2 years ago and last week.
We knew what to expect, prepared the kids for what they would see and explained that some people like that stuff. We are open as far as not being embarrassed about things like that, so it wasn't bad for us. Still, we avoided what we could.

We also found family friendly things to do and had a lot of fun. We did have a late night with David Copperfield. Show started at 10pm but we'd all had a nap earlier and did fine. We also saw family friendly Mystere (cirque du soleil) and the Osmond Brothers.
I can even recommend a non casino, non smoking hotel. Platinum Hotel and Spa....we loved it. New, clean and quiet.

Or the parents can just hire a babysitting service. Don't Vegas hotels offer kids clubs like the resorts at WDW?

This needs to be said again in a big and bold way:

While I concur that Vegas is an adult-version Disneyland I would refrain from judging the choices of other parents who take their children to Vegas.

There is a company called Kids Quest that has child care in the Stations Casinos but they are all off strip. There is another company called Kids Tyme that has child care at The Orleans and also at the South Point. There isn't any property on the strip, that has child care.

So many people are quick to judge and blast parents who bring their kids with them to Vegas for a trip. If you feel so strongly about those vacationing with children, how do you feel about those of us who chose to live here with our children?

Like so many places one can go, the journey is more what you make of it than your actual destination. If you want to come to Vegas and party like you did in your "youngin' days", then leave the kids at home or bring someone else along to mind them. If you want to spend some quality time as a family and experience some things you may no be able to in your home area (Red Rock Canyon, Lake Mead, Valley of Fire, Lied Children's Museum, Springs Preserve, and yes, all the "glory" that is the stip), then plan to do so and skip the late night entertainment.

I have absolutely no problem with anyone bringing their kids to LV. I chose not to. This will by my twin daughters first trip with me. They just turned 23 last week. I chose to wait until they were old enough for all the adult activities they offer, i.e. shows, clubs and gambling. We leave Friday the 7th of Dec. and CAN"T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We stayed at the Orleans 2 weeks ago with our kids, and my brother and his partner and their kids. The kids all LOVED LOVED LOVED the kids club. They kept begging to go back! They had been 2 years ago and still talked about it. Also, the Orleans has a movie theater inside and a bowling alley. Cheap room rates too. We also did family friendly shows like Mystere and Lance Burton, as well as Shark Reef. DH and I go to Vegas a couple times a year, but rarely take the kids. When they do go, we make our schedule so that it fits with their routines. In summertime trips we have done Red Rock Canyon, the Children's Museum, and of course lots of pool time!

We visited Las Vegas last summer as part of our Trip Across America with our camper. We stayed in an RV resort about a mile off the strip. Unfortunately, DH was very ill so we also got to go to the ER--pneumonia! Not to worry, though. To give DH time to recover, we stayed an extra few days. DH slept in the camper all day while I took the kids to the resort pool, one of the best pools we've ever seen. At night we visited the Strip and made a raid on the local IHOP. Las Vegas turned out to be one of the highlights of our 2-month long trip. I wouldn't hesitate to go back and take the kids.

We moved here to Vegas over the summer. So far the kids love it. (I have 4 kids, DS13, DD11, DD7 and DD7) There's plenty to do, and sometimes I "forget" we are in Vegas because I don't even see the Strip.

Our neighborhood, up near Summerlin, is nice, family oriented, with churches, schools, libraries, stores, etc. same as anywhere else.

The nice thing is, if/when we do want to go to the Strip and have some fun, we can do that too.

Believe me, my kids were never bored in Vegas. Vegas was a fantastic part of our trip in 2006 and we all thoroughly enjoyed the Strip both day and night.

My kids loved it as well. We ended our three weeks out west in Las Vegas. They loved the lights at night, but especially loved the shopping. My son loved Nike town at Ceasars. They are teenagers and are used to staying up past 11pm in the summer so I didn't think I was dragging them around.
DH and I go to Vegas quite a bit on our own, but thought the kids would like it and they did.
I never felt bothered by people who brought their kids, even when we didn't.

Vegas was recently named one of the worst places to live by Money magazine. I have to say I agree. (I was a Vegas kid who lived there for 20 years.) I do not miss the strip club signs seen throughout the town. Sure, we lived in a nice suburban neighborhood, but the fakeness of the city drove me crazy as I grew up.
