As you can see from my post count, I am very new to the DIS, but I've been reading the boards for ages. Everyone here has so much advice to give and you all seem like very seasoned travelers!

My question is this- I'm taking my very first trip to Vegas in 2 weeks. I've traveled quite a bit before (China, Eastern Europe, the Caribbean), but I've never been anywhere that's even come close to Vegas. There is SO much out there in the guidebooks, and we're only there for 5 days. So:

1) If you could only see one show, what would it be ? (And yes, I am Canadian, but I refuse to pay $200+ to see Celine Dion!):rotfl:

2) Are there any activites that are simply "don't do's" or ripoffs?

3) What do I simply HAVE to see? I love walking, am in great physical shape, and love to shop. Basically, I love everything so I'm open to all kinds of ideas!

Thanks,

:cool1: starrzone:cool1: Vegas bound!

Check out Las vegas talk website. They have a ton of info.

That said the first show I would see would be Thunder From Down Under:banana: . Of course this is me talking. Anyway enjoy:hippie:

Hmmm...I went to the "Thunder from Down Under" site and read the show description. Not bad!:cool2: I'll put it on my "suggestion" list, although if I do end up going, it will be alone- I'm going to Vegas with a guy friend, and he's not really into that kind of show. He'll have to find his own entertainment that night, which shouldn't be too difficult, given the location;) ...

I suggest you make a visit to our "CAlifornia and the West" board ( find it in the dropdown box) we have lots of Vegas info there!
Welcome to the DIS !

If I could only see one show, it would be Mystere - the best of the Cirque shows, and the cheapest (might well be sold out already though).

For something different, the Mac King comedy magic show (afternoons at Harrahs) is a lot of fun, doesn't take a big commitment, and can be dirt cheap, especially if you pick up discount tickets (there is usually somebody from Harrah's handing them out near the Carnival Court).

Don't Do's? Sirens of TI isn't worth the price (and it's free).

Rip Offs? Probably doesn't apply to you, but don't go thinking you are going to get sex in the champagne rooms at strip clubs (cue Chris Rock)

Best thing to do? As you've said, but those feet to work, walk around, people watch, see the architecture, do a little gambling.

1) O very nice or the one at the Whynn (Ithink)

2) the little cards they hand out on the strip. Great for collecting not so great for use.:lmao:

3) Loved the tigers and dolphins but also the rides at the CircusCircus.

If you don't mind the walking walk the strip and go into every Casino they all have their own appeal. Sit down at a penny or nickel slot ,Get some free drinks and go on to the next one. We did this with $5 in each one if we lost it paid for our drinks and if we hit for $20 we moved on. It was a blast.

Hello!

Fellow New Brunswicker here! I love Vegas! As has already been said, you can be entertained just by walking through the casinos/resorts.

If you are looking for some shopping, I like the Fashion Outlets Las Vegas in Primm, NV, right on the border of California. Check out www.fashionoutletlasvegas.com for more details. Not only is the shopping enjoyable, but there is a pretty nice roller coaster there too. Several of the major hotels on the strip have a shopping shuttle out to the outlets. If you check on the website, there is a coupon for a coupleof bucks off the shuttle.

Here is a question for you: were you able to find affordable airfare? If so, where?

Hope you have a GREAT time!

We went to Vegas for the first time last year.
Walked all day visiting each hotel. We weren't able to do them all. We started at the Bellagio breakfast and ended up at the Aladdin.

The Forum shops at Caesar's Palace are good for shopping. I enjoyed the atmosphere.
Mirage - Dolphins and White Tigers,
Bellagio - The fountain at night.
Wynn - Just walk through this beautiful hotel. Paris - Eiffel tower replica was nice at night.

We saw Mystere which was good but I really wanted to see "O". Maybe the next time...
