Vegan/Vegetarian Restaurant/Dining Help Thread

How is the Crystal Palace for vegans at lunch? Made an ADR for there, but a bit on the fence about what to expect.

I haven't eaten at CP since before I was a vegetarian, but they've always had a lot of yummy salads and veggie sides. I'm not sure how many of them were vegan though. I think I've read vegan reviews of them though, I'll see if I can find some for you.

ETA - Found one! http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=31959492&postcount=34 It's very positive!

Thank you! It looks okay, definitely worth trying.

We have free dining for 5 days of our upcoming 11 day trip, so we're going to try and maximize its value by eating buffets as much as possible during those days.

So far I've got ADRs with Boma, 1900 Park (fingers crossed that Chef TJ is working), Crystal Palace, and Tusker House.. which other ones are good for a vegan?

(I know some are YMMV depending on the chef working).

For buffets, those would be my four picks, though I haven't been to any of them since I started eating entirely vegan again yet. Though I have Tusker House in a couple weeks. Maybe do one sit-down meal? I've heard Sanaa, the Wave, and Kouzzina are all pretty good for vegans.

We've got an ADR for Sanaa later in the trip. I wasn't that impressed with Kouzzina, it was just okay and the wait took forever. I'll have to look into The Wave though, we already got an ADR for California Grill on a Saturday night.

We're hitting buffets b/c we took free dining rather than use a PIN for part of our resort-hopping trip. Best I can figure, buffets give us the biggest value (even though my choices may be limited). But our bigger challenge may be using all 5 of our CS credits for decent vegan options.

I like Cape May Cafe, but when I ate there I still ate seafood, and I can't think of a single thing I had there that would be vegan, since even the salads all had cheese. Maybe Tusker House or 1900 Park Fare twice? That would at least double your chances of getting Chef TJ if you eat at Park Fare twice.

I'm going to try to call 1900 to ask if TJ is working that day. Hell, I'll stop by the restaurant early and ask before our ADR time. If he isn't, I'm cancelling and we'll save the TS credit and pay out of pocket to wait for Citrico's with a walk-in or just CS it that evening.

If I can make it work with his schedule, I'd be happy to eat there and at Boma the whole trip, but I want to at least try a few other places.

Hi everyone..

Question for anyone that's been to CRT in the last year or so.. I see that they offer a Vegetarian Cassoulet, now normally that would sound fine to me but our ADR's for CRT are the evening we attend MNSSHP and I'm worried about eating something so heavy and filling when the weather could still be pretty warm out while we enjoy the party activities. Does anyone know if they offer an alternate option? And if so, what is it? We tried working with the Polynesian concierge to get an answer but the best they could tell us is that the chefs at CRT might be willing to work with me once we get there. That's the response they were given from CRT. Grr.. Not super helpful.

One more week and I'm doing the last minute stressing on food like normal, but with CRT we're talking a pretty expensive meal and I don't just want to pick at it and possibly be disappointed with the meal.

I was going to say I'll let you know, but you'll be there way before me, you will have to let *me* know!:rotfl:

we had a really disappointing lunch at CP two weeks ago...
i can't recommend it at all anymore...
we used to love it there, but the food was awful this time (DD even became violently ill afterwards, losing her lunch in adventure land)..

in contrast, we were pleasantly surprised by Chef Mickey's....
whereas in the past, we've had bad experiences at CM (and good experiences at CP), this time around was different...CP had bad food, CM good...

we were at CM this past saturday night...Chef Matt took us around to see what was vegetarian....it's important to note that he doesn't add anything to his food - no meat broth or other hidden meat ingredients....what you see is what you get....and it was very tasty!!!

he also asked if he could make something special for us, but we were fine with what was offered!

Thanks for the update. I may have to give Chef Mickey's a try!

It's a bit odd that, with a company as large as Disney, accommodating dietary restrictions really comes down to the individual chefs.

I'd say that 75% of the time they handle vegan/vegetarian requests well, but man that other 25% of the time sucks!

i forgot to mention sci fi dine in...
in the past i thought it was the worst place on earth, but we went again to show to the new additions to the family (DD's husband and DS's wife)..

anyway, turns out sci fi has a really nice vegetarian pasta dish....
not greasy as is the case at some of the restaurants..
this one is yummy..

and they also have the traditional disney veggie burger - even though it's not on the menu....

by the way, you can ask for a veggie burger at all disney TS restaurants, whether it's on the menu or not, you can get one..

they've changed the veggie burger.....the new one has visible vegetables in it...

i found it to be very tasty..

and at the sci fi you can add toppings (sauteed onions/mushrooms)..

we ate at the sci fi 3 times.....DD ordering the veggie pasta each time and me and DH ordering the veggie burger with onions/mushrooms on top...

(and DSIL ordering the real burger that he said was great)..

and for those of you who eat milk products, the milk shake is to die for!! :thumbsup2

Lol! Sounds like a plan! :thumbsup2

Anyone know if the Cassoulet is vegan?

Actually, the menu here on the Dis says it is updated 8/11 and the Cassoulet is not on there. In it's place is "Cheese Tortellini with Julienne vegetables, fresh Romano, garlic & garlic marinara sauce." Which is definitely *not* vegan. Very disappointing, I hope it isn't true. :confused3

Hey-quick question.

Just seeing if any of you have ordered a side of veggies (spinach, etc.) with a meal at a TS, and if so, what's the cost? Fingers crossed () that next year I won't, but now I have severe anemia, but am working on it. Either way, I need to get my iron and don't feel like taking supplements with breakfast (it doesn't help either that I drink o.j. for breakfast and Vit. C depletes iron absorption)
:cool1:
Thanks!

I'm so glad this thread exists. I'm traveling with an omni for my next visit, so I'm sort of fending for myself!

What are the best resorts for vegans, re: food court? I know Pop is good, but we'd like to stay in a moderate place-- are some food courts better than others? I'm strictly vegan, tend to stay away from things like hydrogenated oils etc., and I'm not too keen on just munching on burgers and fries... I'll be there two weeks, so I'm kind of into both variety and being able to at least keep up somewhat on my healthy diet. It's vacation so I don't have high expectations, but I'm going to try!

I hate to say it, but the food courts and quick service options range from limited to blah. Yes, you can get *something*, but if you're super strict you're going to be waiting awhile for special orders and eating mostly veggie burgers and/or veggie sandwiches, fries, or salads. There are options outside of table service, but they're not terribly exciting IMHO.

Table service has much better options made custom, and I usually spent under $25 per meal on my last trip (with some chef's custom creations costing only me $15). Lots of variety too -- and all table service places also have vegan desert options like Tofutti or Rice Dream..

Plus it's fun to visit other resorts and try all the restaurants. I think we only ate at the resort we were staying twice our whole trip last time.

Oh, I should have clarified. We're doing the deluxe dining plan, but we have a couple out of park days because we're going for two full weeks-- so I have a feeling we're probably going to end up doing food court counter service on those days or when we decided to occasionally cut out early, plus on our travel days. And I so don't want to just eat fries on those days or something, haha.

What's in the veg pasta dish? Is it the mango-glazed tofu dish, or something different?

I have a question about Chef TJ for those who are familiar with him. I know he's legendarily awesome with the vegan/veg stuff, is he equally awesome with allergies? I need to nail down a few more ADRs for our trip at the end of the month and that would make me a lot more at ease, doing a buffet with my multiple-food-allergic friends.
