My Girlfriend & I just got back from our trip to Walt Disney World. It was her first trip, my 9th!

I'm a Vegan and she is a Vegetarian - Here is a showcase of our various meals at Disney!

the food at crystal palace was so good, we forgot to photograph the first round before wolfing it down! lots of veggies and casseroles, and cinnamon and lemon infused rice. delicious!

n50800015_30649224_3393.jpg

round two at the crystal palace. yellow curried noodles and veggies. mmm!

n50800015_30649225_3646.jpg

California grill. this was the mushroom flat bread with onion. so delicious.

n50800015_30649226_3898.jpg

What's left of my peach and candied pecan salad with a sweet lemon vinaigrette. (California grill)

n50800015_30649227_4149.jpg

the most delicious avocado roll of sushi i had ever tasted. the avocado was actually...juicy! (California grill)

n50800015_30649228_4417.jpg

and the famous dish that gave this post the name...vegan unplugged! they pass the empty plates around the kitchen and each chef gets to create their own little vegan plate. (California grill)

n50800015_30649229_4679.jpg

we forgot to take pictures of our breakfast in Norway, but there were some fantastic gluten free vegan waffles and some kick-*** french fries! (we got some of the waffles at the grocery store...yum!)

n50800015_30649230_4947.jpg

then lunch in morocco. here's the vegetarian plate with couscous, lentil salad, tabbouleh, and bread.

n50800015_30649231_5239.jpg

and you can't go to morocco and not have hummus and flat bread chips! delicious.

n50800015_30649233_4971.jpg

we found a vegan milkshake in 1950! Hollywood studios 50's prime time cafe, rice dream vanilla milkshake.

n50800015_30649234_5259.jpg

and we also found a vegan stuffed pepper full of flavor and grains (and veggies, of course!) (50's prime time)

n50800015_30649235_5516.jpg

off to Germany for another buffet lunch. regular salad, rosemary potatoes, beet salad, tomato salad, and bread! delicious. (biergarten)

n50800015_30649236_5785.jpg

and you can't forget the beer! (biergarten)

n50800015_30649238_6351.jpg

delicious Indian appetizer in Britain! Somosa's stuffed with potatoes, spice, and veggies, dipped in either a chili or mango sauce. yum! (rose and crown)

a dish of rice dream vanilla!

n50800015_30649241_2165.jpg

probably our favorite dish of the trip. deep fried green beans in a sweet and sour chili sauce at the yak and yeti. we're calling them to get this recipe. (animal kingdom)

n50800015_30649242_2449.jpg

Lauren's honey glazed tofu with veggies and jasmine rice. (yak and yeti, animal kingdom)

n50800015_30649243_2737.jpg

and my tofu with rice noodles and veggies at the yak and yeti. (animal kingdom)

n50800015_30649244_3024.jpg

delicious jasmine rice! (y&y)

n50800015_30649245_3319.jpg

the salad at jiko's. each vegetable had it's own layer! a tower of veggies with a tangy dressing.

n50800015_30649246_3618.jpg

voila! an actual vegan menu!

n50800015_30649247_3920.jpg

my tofu, veggies, and grains. it seems we had a lot of tofu, veggies, and grains...but we really didn't! and each dish tasted remarkably different. i just cant remember all of the spices and sauces :P

And there you have it...an amazing culinary adventure through Disney World!

Vegan food in general doesn't have much of an appeal to me - sorry :sad1: - but some of those pictures looked really yummy, especially the Yak and Yeti entrees! That was a giant mound of rice! Thank you for sharing!

Oh thank you so much for posting this! There were a few places I didn't make an ADR to because from what I was advised, my vegetarian DBF wouldn't have any options. Everyone failed to mention that they are willing to accommodate you!

I'm just not sure we're going to have the opportunity to do BOTH Jiko and CG. Which one should we not miss?

That's great that they gave you a special vegan menu!:thumbsup2 I've tried the stuffed pepper at the 50's prime time and I didn't think it tasted very yummy.:sad2: But the curry noodles you had look delicious!:)

I wasn't terribly thrilled with the service at Jiko's. We had to wait 25 minutes to get water and our waitress only had 3 tables (including us), plus she had assistance from other staff.

I've always loved the service at California Grill. The staff is knowledgable and their wine selection is much better I feel. (try the Riesling). A bit more pricey than Jiko, but I feel well worth it.

As long as you ask to speak with a chef once you are seated, you should be fine. They will walk you through the menu or help you create something special! If there is a buffet, they will walk you through and tell you what is ok for your diet and what isn't.

As a vegan, it's always difficult to find food to accomadate my diet when on vacation, but I felt I ate like a king :).

I wish you the same luck!

Wow thanks for the great pictures. I was especcially pleased to see the meals you had at Yak and Yeti, as I was worried about taking my vegetarian DH there. Were they accommadating with making the dishes vegan?

were you able to get all these dishes without calling ahead of time or did you specifically call the restaurants first? curious about yak and yeti specifically. thanks!

Thanks so much for sharing. Everything looks so good! And I'm very excited about the rice dream milk shake. :thumbsup2

We made all of our reservations way in advance and made a note of a 'food allergy'. As a vegan I put no:

* Fish
* Egg
* Dairy
* Meat
*Shellfish

etc....

However if you ask to speak with a chef it should really be no problem. I find though, the more ethnic centered foods (Indian, Asian, Middle Eastern) are much easier to find vegan options. Yak & Yeti had a good variety. While not specifically on the menu, the chef can accommodate a vegan diet. Just ask to speak with him.

Good luck!

and btw - The Yak & Yeti is one of my favorite restaurants on property. such a good balance of food...and the jasmine rice...is AMAZING!

Thanks so much for posting and with pics! I am a vegetarian and my daughter has a dairy allergy, so you have given me lots of hope we can be well taken care of.

Did you use the dining plan? It doesn't seem worth it for a vegetarian based on menus/prices I have seen. My husband does eat meat though so I think I might end up letting him use some of my TS credits and just order off an appetizer or something at some of our table service restaurants.

Thanks again for the great pics!

Wow- I am impressed, I am not much of a meat eater myself, but could not be considered a strict vegetarian (I enjoy an occasional chicken entree). I love seeing all the choices- some look so yummy- you have inspired me to make some more ADRs :lmao:

THANK YOU! New to the Veg thing here... I was worried about 'doing Dis veggie style', but I'm very excited now!!! :cool1:

OP, if you get the string bean recipe, would you be willing to share it with us? Sounds yummy.

WOW 25min for water:eek: your far kinder than me . I would have been throwing a temper tantrum by then if i were still in the restaraunt.

My dd is going to be so excited. We've recently realized she has some lactose sensitivities and she can't eat ice cream without getting a tummy ache. She was so disppointed that she might not be able to have milkshakes at 50's, I can't wait to reassure her :)

wow your dining experiences in WDW looked amazing. it is so nice to know that vegans and veggies can eat well at disney. i much prefer and choose the veggie option on the menu as it is often the most inventive. gotta love those veggies!( veggie for about 5 years before kids came along!)

I think that chefs are often more inventive with these options as meat tends to overpower the dish.

Love your review :thumbsup2

Nice to see that Disney caters well for the vegans/vegetarians of the World.

Thanks for your reviews! My sister recently discovered that she has a dairy intolerance, therefore your vegan options are intersting to see what Disney does without dairy! She will love to hear that they have ricedream milkshakes at the 50's Prime Time!! :goodvibes
