Good Morning!

I'll be in Disney in 5 days! Can't believe it!

We are staying at the Poly and I read about the chefs being able to make vegan tonga toast. I'm allergic to milk so this is super exciting for me!

Has anyone had it? What was the process you had to go through to get it? I read that you had to give the chef 24 hours advanced notice. How does one do that? I have a reservation for Kona Cafe on 12/14 and I would like to be able to get it there. Do I have to stop by there on 12/13?

I also could possibly get it at Captain Cooks. That's another option.

Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!!

Do you want vegan or do you want milk free? They're not the same thing. I haven't checked if the milk free bread they carry is egg free or not so vegan may be more difficult than milk free. I bet it normally gets dipped in egg as well so again, vegan will likely be different food than milk free. I'd recommend being VERY clear about what you really need. You'll have LOTS more options specifying everywhere that you have a milk allergy vs being vegan.

Note your allergy on your reservation. When you check in, make sure the allergy is noted if the CM checking you in doesn't mention it. A chef will come out to your table and you will order from the chef. I don't know about vegan but for a milk allergy you shouldn't have to order ahead of time. I'm pretty sure I've read reviews from people who are gluten and milk free who just placed their orders at the time with no advanced notice.

Where did you hear that you have to order a day ahead?

I think the 24hr rule is where you know you get it. I just got back from WDW and I had a lot of restaurants there asking IF we had any special needs. We were having b-fast at the Poly and I noticed one of the Chefs coming out to talk to a family about a special meal for one of the kids-the chef had his note pad-so looks like they are VERY accomodating.

Thanks for the info!

I don't really mind if it's vegan or just milk free, as long as I get to try it! :)

and it said on allears about ordering 24 hours in advance.

I would strongly urge you to be very clear with chefs exactly what your dietary restriction is rather than specifying vegan. You are allergic to milk and you don't care about all that is involved in being vegan. Chefs will have LOTS more options for you if you are clear that it is only milk that you need to avoid. Chefs at WDW are trained in strict food allergy protocols. I understand that in real life that labels stating vegan are handy (in my family 3 of us are intollerant to casein with one also intollerant to eggs so I really do get it) but with WDW chefs, the more specific you are the better. They honestly do know what is in each product they have. I'm not making this suggestion just for the Tongo Toast and Kona. This is the best approach at ALL food locations at WDW whether it's a TS restaurant, CS restaurant or some kind of snack stand. By saying you need vegan food you're putting unecessary restrictions on what you can eat.
