I will be going to Disney in October. I am both vegan and gluten free and haven't been able to find much info on my choices. Has anyone who has been have any info or know of any reports by gluten free vegans I can check out? Thanks! Karen

I know a few people who have been to disney with gluten allergies and one who is suffers from a gluten allergy and is a vegan. They all were able to arrange for food by calling Disney ahead of time. I'm sure someone has the number to call here and can tell you more.

DD12 isn't vegan but she is gluten, milk and egg free (among other things). She is quite the carnivore so most times her meals are meat based.

Lots of places carry gluten free pastas. These places also typically have allergy safe sauces.

Feb 2009 we stayed at Pop and the chef a few times made me the most AMAZING gluten free stir fry. We were discussing my meal and he mentioned that he had gotten in a fabulous order of fresh vegetables including some snow peas, beautiful mushrooms, fresh ginger, baby corns and so much more for a vegan guest and that he'd gladly do something up for me with them as well (I'm limitted in my meat consumption because I can't have beef or pork though I can do all other meats). The meals where he made that were probably the best meals I ate that whole trip and I think among my top meals of all of my WDW vacations.

Desserts and snacks were our biggest concern for DD12 since meals are pretty easy for a huge meat lover (slap a steak in front of her and she's happy). None of the packaged gluten free baked goods besides the Enjoy Life ones are vegan and EL is only found at very limitted places. Crystal Palace has a gluten free vegan brownie/chocolate cake and Chef Mickey has gluten free vegan cupcakes (vanilla and chocolate). At our resort, we had already spoken with a chef by phone ahead of time so there was a big batch of brownies ready for us when we arrived (we always eat at least 1 meal per day in our resort's food court). They also made an AMAZING gluten free, yeast free, vegan pizza that my kids loved (again, they did this based on my having spoken with a chef ahead of time so they were already prepared and only had to be cooked when we'd order). Itzkadoozie popsicles at all of the carts all over WDW are gluten free and vegan as is the popcorn. Sunshine Seasons should be able to do up a nice noodle vegetable tofu meal to order as well (they probably have a variety of options but you'll want to check with Special Diets about it).

We find that CS at our resort is so much easier than at parks with multiple restrictions. Sunshine Season at Epcot is likely the best exception though we still have yet to try it (I plan to during our upcoming trip). TS locations should be able to accomodate you much easier as well. If you can, try to get an ADR at 'Ohana as chef TJ's reputation for vegan as well as allergy friendly meals is legendary.

Make sure to contact Special Diets. Ask to have a chef from your resort call to speak to you if you plan to dine there much.

I'm gluten free and have a milk allergy, so I tend to consume a lot of vegan baked goods. clanmcculloch gave you a lot of great tips on the baked goods and snacks. Chef TJ is amazing, and I've heard a lot about his vegan delights, so I would consider Ohana if you are interested (someone once posted a 7 course vegan meal he prepared there!). I have also seen some vegan posts about desserts made specially at 50s Prime Time Cafe. I've heard Tusker House and Boma are great options. I have eaten at both, and can see that this might be true, especially if you make arrangements in advance. Jiko is awesome, and they have a separate milk/lactose free, gluten free menu, so I'm inclined that they would have some vegan options. I bet Sanaa would also be a great choice. I believe they have a vegetarian menu already too.

Someone on the disboards (don't think this particular board) posted a vegan dining review, so I might try to check that out!

WDW is so great with special diets, so I"m sure you will find some great meals! I always do! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the help! I see the Crystal Palace and Chef Mickey's are buffet meals. Would I be able to only get those desserts at the lunch/dinner buffets or do you think I could get them at the breakfast ones? Not that I would ever eat dessert at breakfast :rolleyes1

I would make the assumption they only typically serve them at lunch/dinner, but maybe if you sweet talk them, you can con your way into one for breakfast! Boy, those things are so good, I think I wouldn't mind one for breakfast either! (ok, maybe without the chocolate sauce and rice dream ice cream...but then again, maybe not. It is vacation after all! )

You must go to Ohana's and see Chef TJ. My DS is milk, egg, and peanut allergic and we had the most amazing experience there. I've seen reviews from vegans and reviews from gluten free individuals. I'm sure he could make you a wonderful meal.

I'm a vegan and gluten free with other allergies as well.

Whenever you eat ask to see the chef, they will cook you whatever you want, even things not on the menu as long as the have the ingredients. just expect to wait a little longer.

WDW is the best, just don't expect the same service from resturants that are not owned by Disney ie. some in WS and DTD.

In the MK if you go in to the bakery in the morning you can talk to the chef and tell them what you would like to eat and where (if you have a ADR) and they will make sure that your food is ready. If you do not have an ADR you can sit in the bakery and eat your meal, we have done this several times.

What kinds of things have you gotten in the bakery with advanced notice? It'll be nice to know if there are additional options beyond the typical premade fare found at other park CS locations.

Whatever you want!!!!
The chef asks what you would like and as long as they have the stuff they make it.
Last time I had a rice, tofu and veg soup with a silk and tofutti milk shake.
I did not give any notice for this, we just waited for it to be made, about 45mins.

Also if you can only eat the steak fries (the others have mulit dextrin of unknow orgin) you can get them any time. We do all the time.

I was just diagnosed with Celiac disease and started wondering what in the world I would be able to eat while in Disney World. I am a BIG sweet eater and after looking at all the dining reviews couldn't wait to try some. Now that I've been diagnosed with Celiac and have to eat gluten free-(bummer), am wondering what am I going to eat....

I wish someone would do a dining review with pics of some gluten free food.

Be sure to go to the Crystal Palace for dinner. They make the most AMAZING gf/df brownie ever. MMM. It does have eggs though.

I have also been given gf/df brownies at Chef Mickeys that are delicious.

You can get gf/df chocolate chip cookies and brownies in all resort food courts. They are prepackaged. I prefer the other brand to the divvies.

All restaurants will probably give you divvies or a gluten free brownie for dessert. If you can have ice cream they'll incorporate those too.

I can't have dairy which makes all sweet eating impossible, as everything has butter or milk in it. It does get frustrating but it helps me stay skinny!

Last I heard, the brownies at CP were egg free as well. I was actually considering reversing my self-imposed ban of CP so DD could have them (we had a not so great experience there so I put it on our no list). Has this changed?

Divvies cookies are not gluten free. Some places carry the French Meadows cookies (same company as the brownies) but the French Meadows products contain eggs (DD12 can't eat them). Thank goodness more and more places are carrying the Enjoy Life cookies. They're gluten free and vegan (nut free too, not that you asked about that).

On May 4 I got an email from Special Diets stating where I can find Enjoy Life cookies in the parks. Here's what they said.
In the Magic Kingdom – The Main Street Bakery, Epcot – only some of the table service, Disney’s Hollywood Studios – All quick service locations and Animal Kingdom – All quick service locations.

The brownies at Chef Mickey may have eggs. If they're French Meadows then they do. They do have cupcakes though that are amazing and happen to be gluten free and vegan (soy and nut free too in case that matters to you).

thanks for the tips and ideas all...

my youngest DD is on a GF, dairy and egg free diet...doing lots of reasearch and bringing some things from home so we can keep her happy and healthy...:thumbsup2

Sarah's blog helped me plan my meals for my bday weekend trip:

I'm glad my blog helped! :thumbsup2
It's not so huge right now, since I've only been GF/CF for a year, but I'm adding more with every trip (can't wait for my trip in October!!)

It was my goal to add pics with reviews because that's what helped me the most when I first found out about my food allergies and Crohn's. That's why the disboards is so helpful--everyone shares their experiences! I couldn't do my trips without it!

Thanks for posting this! I have recently become gluten free due to severe sensitivity and was looking for some help!
