VDH Opening

Interesting what it takes to get the CA license. My guides have always been in CA since I originally purchased in Disneyland. My current guide actually relocated from CA to FL during the pandemic (maybe around 2021?). I wonder if he still has his CA license or will have an easier time getting a new one.

I know! I was surprised. Kayla mentioned a lot of the info isn’t even applicable to them, but it’s the new rules so…🤷🏼‍♀️

And yes, our original guide was also local to DLR, but she left pretty quickly and we were transferred to our current/soon-to-be ex-guide. 🥴 You’ll likely hear soon if yours no longer has the CA license as the date is coming up quickly!

But from the buyer perspective, it makes no difference right? I just click, send, and sign. Pay. Points in my account. Done. What am I missing by not having a guide?
Not everyone has access to the add-on tool. When I click on it, it says:

Dino-Sorry About That

Due to the laws and/or restrictions in your jurisdiction, the Add-On Request Tool is not available.

Didn’t know that!

Foreign?

I switched over to a CA guide a while back in preparation for VDH. I only spoke with my previous guide in FL over the phone so it wasn’t a big deal for me.

buying as a foreign member means I have to speak with someone directly in the US, in person. The current systems in place for digital contracts are now problematic. I attempted to buy when I was in WDW post pandemic and they realised that I needed to be notarised in person and they didn't have anything set up for this. I was also trying to buy with CA guide whilst in Florida. It was a mess. I actually pulled out in the end because of Chapek changes and the mess of purchasing where resale was actually easier.

New buyers need a guide, period. All owners have a guide at all times whether they know it or not. Presumably you get an email from them periodically but maybe not. I assume with the add on tool someone still has to do some manual work on the DVC side and that person is likely your guide or some support person for them.

What exactly does the guide do once you already have a contract?
We are buying resale. Will we have a guide for something?

Honestly, in my experience, nothing. My guide is super nice. But once the sale was finalized, I’ve only heard from her when I reached out about VDH. Not that I want or need her to reach out for anything else.

You don't get a DVC guide for resale. The resale companies have representatives of their own. When you buy from DVC, it's referred to as "direct".

I’ve always heard you are assigned a guide even if you buy resale - I think a lot of people who buy resale don’t even know who their guide is though. This is just what I’ve heard on forums from people with resale. So I’m not 100% sure because we bought direct.

We had a guide after purchasing resale. She always called and checked in. We did finally buy some direct. She is Aulani based but we keep in touch. I missed her when we were at Aulani (it was the holiday).

And for those curious - the add on tool only sends an email to your guide about what resort you clicked on. It’s a fancy call or email me now. You don’t actually buy anything on the next screen.

We bought direct and half the time I still don’t know our guide. We had a really good one a while back. I think we’ve had 6 or 7 different guides since 2016. Almost a new one each year. It’s nice to know and have a guide you connect with, but it likely doesn’t matter.

I would bet that there’s a legal reason for assigning everyone a guide no matter what. I don’t know what it is but that’s my guess.

When our original guide left the company, we were not assigned a new guide until we went to purchase more points.

Our new guide kept insisting I hadn't given consent to be contacted despite following the steps he sent (and receiving marketing emails all the time), so maybe there's something with my account.

Well. We were never contacted, except by someone leaving voice mail on our DVC room phone to come get a “free” gift. I don’t think they left a name. We did buy resale during Covid, July 2020, so maybe that had something to do with it. I do have one now, because I specifically set up an appointment so we would have one for the VDH sales.

"Guides" = Disney speak for timeshare sales person. You'll be assigned a guide but depending on the individual you might never hear from them or they may get in touch and stay in touch in hopes of closing a direct sale with you in the future. If you don't buy direct you'll never actually need the "guide".
