VDH availability

Poly longhouses
Big Pine Key at VGF is similar (‘Resort’ studio specifically, not the ‘Deluxe’ studios)

The 3 DVC longhouses at Poly are all studios and nearly all have a connecting door to another studio. You get one of these longhouses if you do not book the Island Tower.

BPK at VGF is also all studios and nearly all have a connecting door to another studio.

The other DVC resorts at WDW might have a connecting door on a studio but those are connected to a 1BR.

The Poly DVC longhouses and BPK building at VGF have a very strong chance of having a connecting studios request honored (I believe they give priority to parties with minors). DVC studios elsewhere at WDW have pretty much zero chance at connecting studio request because it doesn’t exist for the most part. There might be an odd example but all the other studios with a connecting door are part of 2BR lock-off.

Thanks for the insights. It seems VDH would benefit from having connecting studios available similar to BPK. I wonder now why they did not go this route....

Personally, I would take a 1BR / 2BR when I can if there's availability and I have the points, though I would opt for connecting studios vs forgo a trip if the larger villas are not available.

Poly longhouses and BPK building were studios converted from the hotel rooms. They took the rooms down to the studs, but didn't change the bones of the buildings. If they were a new build, it probably would've been like all the other DVC resorts.

I just purchased my first direct DVC contract - 150pts at VDH. I logged onto the DVC portal for the first time to see availability for the rooms that can accommodate family of 5. I was shocked to see there is basically nothing for the next 11 months and am seriously considering walking back the purchase. I reached out to my guide who indicated that as more contracts are sold, more availability will follow. Is that a thing? I would have thought it can only get worse. Obviously they are incentivized for me to not cancel.
What did you decide?

It’s a good point. I wonder if sound issues with connecting rooms plays into it….

I was thinking that too, but they do make adjoining rooms work well on some hotels.. it seems like a lost opportunity - the low number of 1BR/2BR villas can really discourage one from buying into VDH and this seems it could be a compromise solution, even if DVC does it only for some block of studios.

I ended up keeping it after realizing that the 2 x studios were approximately the same price as the 1 bedroom and my kids are approaching middle-teenage years and will want their own space. The studios seem to be aplenty and we don't need the kitchen at Disneyland like we do at Aulani or WDW.
Huge disclaimer that there is absolutely no guarantee they will be on the same floor, let alone next door to each other.
