Does anyone happen to know if the VCR or TV in the OKW GV's have an S-Video input?

I was planning on taking my laptop w/dvd (w Disney DVD's for the younger crowd we'll have - or me if they don't want to watch 'em) and it only has an S-Video output.

Thanks!

never been in a GV. But last last time i used the laptop dvd was summer 2000 in a 2 bed. There was only the standard RCA video in- no s-video.

Hopefully they have newer or better in the gv's?

The GV's have a larger TV in the living room, so I was hoping it might have an s-video in; sometimes with the larger TV's things like s-video are just there.

Maybe to be safe what we'll need to do is bring an older DVD player we have that we don't use much anymore, and I can gift that to my sister while we're there along with a couple of duplicate DVD's we ended up with. Decisions, decisions....

I would call radio shack, maybe you can pick up an s-video to rca adapter. Not sure if such a thing exists but its worth a try.

Geyser, just FYI...

No such thing as an adapter. S-Video is a totally different method than RCA jacks. The type of signal is totally different. I believe there are converters, perhaps some type of video processor used for video editing or something, but this may be going beyond FM's needs.

FM:

One thought is if the TV's have S-video inputs (being newer, and larger TV's which might tend more to have it), there's a good chance it would only be in the back, and not in a front panel. You may not even be able to easily get to the back of the TV set itself to hook your cable up.

If you really wanted to know, I suppose you could try to get a phone number to DVC maintenance. They might be able to answer. Or maybe just send a simple E-mail to MS. They might be able to get an answer and mail you back in a few days.

I have an s-video hook up on my laptop with dvd. In my bag i have a cord that has the s-video on one end and on the other a box with the red, white, and yellow rca plugs. I can also plug a transmitter into the headphone jack and get stero sound over my car speakers. Its not digital sound but with the sub woofer it is pretty good on a drive.

We're here. The TV does have an S-video input. You can by s-video to composit cables, but they run about $100. Unfortunately, it appears that the optimization for the video driver on my laptop has been concentrated on higher resolutions than 640x480 which is what I must run in to use the s-video output, so dvd playback is kindof jerky. Guess we'll go with the dvd player option.

Thanks anyway!

Caskbill, thanks for the info. I always appreciate your South Hoosier wisdom.

Canda, with your transmitter can you watch a dvd on your laptop and have the soundtrack stereo broadcast in your car FM? Sounds like a great way for the kids to survive an Orlando road trip. Do I still have time to get a word in with Santa Claus?

Yes, I was going to get the video package when i bought my Tahoe, but my laptop has a 15 inch screen and those car drop screens are only 4-9 inch. So i droped the A/V package and just use the laptop w/ DVD. I have a Subwoofer, so It gives a little bit better sound, but it no where close to digital suround. I have used it in a car with out a subwoofer and it sounds fine. It is still alot better than those little laptop speakers. THe transmitter is called "SOUNDFEEDER. wireless CD player adaptor. It is really for the portable CD players to be heard over the car speakers without useing that tapeplayer adapter. But it works great with my laptop. (you plug it into the headphone port on your laptop.) I bought this thing at Circuit City. I tune my radio to a station that has no signal and then tune the transmitter to the station. The item is about the size of the old timey pagers. I think it was under $20. I use it all the time. Sometimes when wife goes to the mall, I will sit in the car, and watch a DVD.

Awesome Canda.

Maybe our wives can go shopping together sometime. I'm alway up for a good flick!

PS. Do you have a 12V microwave?...
I'll bring the popcorn.
