I am off to VB in a month. ANyone played any of the golf courses around there? What can I expect fee-wise? Thanks

Hi,
You have a lot of choices for golf around Vero at all sorts of prices. Closest to the resort (5-10 min) is Sandridge. It has 2 courses, both nice. It is a municipal course ant the summer rates for summer will be around $25. About 45 minutes away in Port St. Lucie are a trio of wonderful courses run by the PGA. 2 were designed by Tom Fazio (North and South) and the other designed by Pete Dye. I'd guess summer rate around $30. The web site there is www.pgavillage.com. Well worth the drive and a steal for green fees. Another option in VB is Indian River Club. It is a private club but a superbly conditioned course, as most private courses with limited play are. The fees there are around $65 in the summer. You'd have to go thru member services for tee times there. I've played all of these courses and you can't go wrong on any of them. Just depends on how much you want to pay and how far you want to drive. We'll be there the week of July 4th and playing gold also. Have a great trip, hit 'em straight and maybe see you at the Green Cabin for a cold one.

My trip with my wife to OKW and VB ended on a Friday morning, and then my annual golf weekend with 28 guys started that Friday at PGA Village in Port St. Lucie, so my wife dropped me off and drove home to Tampa.
We played all three courses and had a great time. It is about 45-60 minutes from VB, but is straight down I-95 and right at the exit.
I liked the North and the South courses, which are more traditional, but did not like the Dye course at all. It is described as a links course, but is not like any links course I have played, where you would be hitting over marshes, etc. Instead, mainly on both sides of the fairway, there are areas that are covered with fine gravel. They are not sand traps, but you are supposed to play your ball from where it lies, and I found the gravel was scratching up my clubs. I finally started dropping out of the stuff and taking a penalty each time. Not many of our group cared for this course. The other two courses are very nice and the facilities are all new. The fees mights be a little higher than $35 - we had a weekend package rate, so I am not sure, but check the web site.

Just got back from Vero a week ago and during my visit I went up and played Sabastian Municipal course. It's being renovated now and the back 9 was closed the day I was there. But, I played the front 9 (afternoon) for $11.57 with cart. A hard price to beat.

I also played both the Dunes and the Lakes of Sandridge. It was around $17 for the afternoon. I asked to play 9 and it would be $16 with a cart, but the guy in the proshop told me it would only be $17 to play 18. As a matter of fact, I think it is $17 in the afternoon for as many holes as you can get in.
