VB from Atlanta?

Are you coming from Atlanta? If so it depends where in Atlanta you are coming from. Northside of the City, (1-75 Marietta) (I-85 Gwinnett County), within the city limits etc.

Do you like to stop along the way at different sites? ie(A1A in Florida at St Augustine)

Coming from Marietta, 75. We don't plan to do anything on the way, but plan on stopping about an hour outside VB to sleep the night before.

I'd go I-75 into Florida, I-10 East to I-295 South to bypass Jacksonville, and then I-95 South to St. Augustine. Then into Vero the next morning. This route takes you around Jacksonville, and you miss Orlando entirely...as well as the construction on the Florida Turnpike south of Orlando. Plus you save having to pay tolls to drive slow. Other than Atlanta, the only real city traffic you'll have will be Macon, and that's pretty manageable.

One hour north of Vero is about Titusville, and unless you are lucky enough to coincide with a shuttle launch, there is nothing to see or do in Titusville.

St. Augustine is probably 2 1/2 hours from Vero and easily the nicest stop on the upper East Coast of Florida...but that depends on your interests. If you're a big NASCAR fan, you may want to stop at Daytona and see the track. If you're a Surfer Dood, going a little farther to Cocoa Beach to visit Ron Jon Surf Shop would be required.

If you stop at St. Augustine, go into town and see the oldest city in America (by more than 100 years), the fort, and all the touristy stuff. Stop by the Columbia Restaurant and get two things - the 1905 Salad and a nice cold Ybor City Gold beer. The rest of the food is wonderful, too. Great Spanish cuisine from Tampa! It's worth a stop.

IMO, I would take 95.

We seem to like that route better.

You could even cut over to US 1 for part of the drive and see all the beautiful things there are to see along the way.

Shan...we took 75 to I-95 and stayed in Jax on the way down. It worked out great except for the extremely crumby Spring Break traffic. It took us 11 hours just to get to Jax. I wouldn't wish that trip in my worst enemy! You are going down the week after school gets out, right? We should have better luck that week. (See you on I-75)

I'm warning you know...be prepared to want to buy some Vero points...that place is wonderful! :sunny:

Thanks everyone. That is what I thought. I printed out directions from MSN and it was the 95 route. I called VB and spoke to a VERY NICE woman at guest services who told me Cocoa Beach was about an hour north of them. I found a Holiday Inn Express Cocoa that I think might be good for the night before we arrive. She is also sending me an info packet. I was so impressed, she even called me back later in the day to tell me she would be putting directions for me in the mail, too! WOW. I also talked to a chef about my DD's food allergies, again VERY NICE. I'm now excited, despite it being with the in-laws! :teeth:

I have a trip planned with my girls and mom for June at SSR. We're using old park hopper plus options for the water parks and planned to hang out at the resort and maybe do some other resort dinners. None of the four parks! After I told my mom about VB today she wants to see if we can switch. Think a 4 and 7 year old would get bored going to VB only a month later???

kweaver, I PMed you. :sunny: OMG, 11 hours?!? We left Sunday about 5 AM, hard cause of the time change that morning and made it to OKW around 1. Traffic wasn't too bad, but a little worse coming back home the following Sunday.
