my husband and one of my best friend's husbands are both planning on getting vasectomys soon.
for my dh's, we got a referral from someone we know (actually, my children's pediatrician, of all people, lol), did some research, checked our insurance, and he made the phone call. has his 1st appt next week for the consult, but was told its about a 5 or 10 minute office procedure using local anesthesia, and our insurance covers is completely (yay!). this seems to be on par with experiences of people we know, and from what i have read online.
for my friend, though, it seems totally out of wack. her dh went for his consult last week. his dr. (referred to by his own dr), does them at a hospital, not in his office. there will be a fee for the place where it is being done. and according to what her dh told her, the guy uses a general anesthesia.
in all of my reading, I have never seen where they refer to using a general for a vasectomy. I was really surprised, in fact. but she was adament that that is what they told her husband.
has anybody heard of this? also, aren't most done in the dr.'s office?
not sure if it makes a difference, but we are in MA and they are in FL

and really pretty simple.
, so it wasn't that he asked for more than a local, that's just what the urologist did.
