Various questions

OK, I've read the whole past year of postings on FTW. Lot's of great info. Believe it or not, I still have a few questions:

1. Roller blades - can they be used, or will I be hassled? We'll be bringing our kids bikes, but won't have room for the adult bikes. I have roller blades and I thought that might be a good way to keep up with them (god knows I won't be able to on foot). Bike rental prices are steep (in Hilton Head, they are $20 for a whole week - $10 a day would be much more reasonable). What do you think?

2. We are probably going to purchase the dining plan, as it seems like a good deal and would fit in well with our plans. It looks like only Trails End is included (as a table service). Crockett's doesn't count for counter service? We want to spend at least one whole day at the campground, but unless they have changed the participating restaurants, we'll have to shlep out at some point to eat counter service (as we'll already be hitting Trails End once that day).

3. How long do the boats take to get to MK and/or the other resorts? It seems like the boat from the TTC to MK takes about 10 minutes or so, are the others about the same?

Thanks!

Hi! I did see people rollerblading so I assume that is okay.

We did the dining plan too and they do not have any counter service at FW. What we did was, we would take the boat to the Contemporary or Wilderness Lodge and eat at their counter service places.

The boat goes directly from FW to MK and takes approx 10-15 minutes if I recall correctly.

Hope this helps!

Another option would be to buy a cheap bike at Walmart when you get there. I have seen them as low as $50 for a basic adult bike. I am sure you could find someone to give it to when you leave. I have seen a lot of people on roller blades as well.

Thanks for your help. Looks like I'll pack the roller blades and hope the kids don't leave me in the dust.

As for the counter service, we'll try one of the other resorts on the lake - it will give us an opportunity to explore a bit more.

Thanks again.

Looks like we won't be purchasing the dining plan. In order to add this option to your reservation, you also have to have at least one day of MYW theme park tickets. We're just doing the party one night, so this didn't fit in our plans.

Wait... if you're camping at FW, you can buy the dining plan? Same as at the resorts?

That is my understanding based on conversations with reservations CMs. They didn't offer the free dining plan to campers, but you can still purchase the plan.

We've put it as part of our package next summer....so yes the dining plan is allowed through Ft Wilderness. It works for us...we may be "roughing" it tent camping at the World but no way no how am I cooking more than a couple of meals while I am on vacation!! :rotfl2:

I hear that! Thanks for the info, I don't think we'll be able to use it for our mom's visit with us, but it's good to know for the future... (Can't use dining plan with the florida resident's rate park admission she'll be buying)

So if you book a campsite for full rack rate and a MYW ticket is the Dining Plan included or not?

It is not included, but you can add on the dining plan with the MYW package. I just added it our stay in October. It is something like 34.99 per day for adults and 9.99 or 10.99 per day for kids. Still a pretty good deal when you consider it includes apps and desserts for the table service meal.
