Vanished Disney cruise ship worker could be 'murdered'

Fantasy,

Thanks for posting this, I had not heard a thing about this coming up again. My niece was a youth councilor on the Wonder at the time of the incident, she knew and worked with Becca. I called her after reading this to ask if she had been contacted by a private investigator at any time after her contract particularly recently given the news stories, she had not. If they release any more info in the UK please update so we can get the story as well.

A good friend of mine committed suicide a year and a half ago. I and others had always thought of him as the most stable of persons, the one who everyone got rational and reasonable advice from. I spoke to him 3 weeks before he committed suicide - he was laughing and telling stories, joking, mentioned about getting together for lunch some time soon, talked about his new job, his daughter's upcoming wedding. Everything seemed normal. I was shocked when I heard the news. He was very good at keeping his real feelings to himself. In public, he put on a face of normality and hid the pain and depression that he felt, and had felt for some time. I still feel like I should have known how he was really feeling, but even his wife never anticipated his actions. We don't know if it was one moment of impulse when the pain got too much or if it was a long-term plan.

The reality is that you don't really know what's going on inside someone's head, especially someone who may potentially commit suicide. They can hide their feelings and act like everything is normal. I tend to ignore such comments as "it was out of character" or they seemed happy before. Maybe she was killed and maybe not, but this particular observation is irrelevant when it comes to someone who has committed suicide. Their true state of mind isn't always obvious.
Yes. I personally know, day to day how much an illness in the mind, can affect someone, one in four of us will encounter someone with a mental illness each year. I also knew people personally who committed suicide. I am not an expert, but have experience in dealing with people will illnesses of the mind, for over thirty years, some here know how passionate I am about it when some posts use inappropriate words to discribe people.

Whilst a few people do not show signs, it's not one size fits all, as you indicate in your post, and quite often there are many observations, behaviour and clues, yes the ones who say they may do it, may not, and the quiet ones need to be supported.

Back to this tragedy, the facts are, as I understand it, was there were no signs whatsoever , totally out of character, in fact very happy at that time, no clues at all. Yes it could happen, but unlikely. Clearly the parents , ( who would be best placed to know) have ruled that out, yes parents sometimes, may not know everything, but they would look into any possible cause for closure.

I am sure a PI would look into it as well. And report if there were a single clue on it.

An MP lending their name and support to e investigation wouldn't do so, without being happy with the facts as presented, and would give to rule out, other possibilities, otherwise would look rather stupid if another explanation came up.

Glad this thread / update, helped inform you of this update. There will be a regional news report in Manchester on Monday in the UK, we may know more from that. Now I am in London, so it's not shown here, but we can watch post the broadcast on BBC IPlayer, it may prompt newspapers to cover it after that.

a pretty girl. She might of been raped, than they had to do something with her. So she won't tell for being rape.

To be fair this story has resurfaced as a call for any UK citizen lost at sea to be investigated by UK police (like the US currently does where the FBI can investigate disappearances). Currently UK law means that if you are at sea away from the UK they are not allowed to investigate. This is being used as an example because of the fact the private investigator claims to know its murder. Also to add DCL did investigate this as well as the Bahamaian authorities. I'm not saying they didn't miss anything but just saying it wasn't just one man investigating. As someone mentioned there was a settlement between DCL and the family so I am surprised that this is the case that was chosen to try and push for this change in the law. I am sure there are a lot more cases out there of tourists going missing and the chance of foul play but this seems to be the one they are most interested in. A tragic case in deed but not the only one out there and passengers families wouldn't be compensated by the cruise line. Very sad situation but the new publicity over this isn't as specific as it first appears its just being used as an example of where the private investigator feels British police investigation would have been more thorough and found what ever he thinks he found that shows this was murder.

Currently on BBC TV

The disappearance of Rebecca Coriam from a Disney cruise ship off the coast of Mexico is one of the biggest maritime mysteries of recent years. Tonight Jayne McCubbin asks why, four years on, UK authorities are deliberately withholding police information about the case from her Chester family, and asks if she was murdered

People in the UK can watch on IPlayer.

Available for the Next seven days. It's at 10.35 ( of 29 minutes) it's the second item.

She reported a fear of being attacked just before.
Her E Mail account was used after.
Her credit card used after.
The investigation interviewed just six people.
They clearly say that One man investigated it and show his picture.
The investigation report will not be shared with her parents, even though requested it.

There is more but for legal reasons they cannot share it, ( legal gag).

without evidence, there won't be any charge of murder. Could be someone has heard of some sort of evidence that would fly in a UK court, but they don't say so. Nothing that has been listed would hold up on a charge of murder.

As soon as the politicians start making demands years later, I don't trust a word they say. DF is correct in most of her post, but I will point out the following:

1. The credit card use was explained when is was first discovered right after Rebecca disappeared. Something about wrong dating of the charge.

2. What they left out: Every member of the crew was interviewed by vessel and DCL security people.
The USCG attended on board the vessel on arrival and were involved in the investigation.
The FBI was invited (which is the only way they could investigate) to assist and did.
Yes 1 person from the Bahamas Maritime, as the Flag Nation, investigated on the vessel. Yes I think that is ridiculous to have only 1 person.

3. The investigation went on after the vessel sailed, checking into other things and possibilities.

4. To the best of my knowledge , there was never a cause for Rebecca's death ever nailed down. From the start all possibilities, including a murder was/is a possibility. That is why I think this politician is just looking for votes.

5. If there is more available from the family, there are ways it could have been leaked out without penalty.

It still a very sad situation........one which, unless someone comes forward and really knows what happened, we will never know the cause.

only thing they have determined is that she had to have gone overboard, because the ship was searched and she was not found.

Either nobody saw her go over, or nobody is admitting that they saw her go over. It's awful for the parents who have no idea what happened to her. I assume it is possible a more thorough investigation could have been done as far as interviewing people and looking into her background, but that's all, because there is no body and no crime scene.
