Can anyone recommend a good place to get good, cheap vanilla in Cozumel? Thanks!

I can't remember the name, but there was a pharmacy in town (I walked from the Magic, it wasn't very far) where I bought mine. (I only wish now I'd bought more bottles, as I used all of mine when I baked at Christmas.):(

Honestly, you'll find it very inexpensive at most any shop. It's in many stores too, you won't have trouble finding it.:D

Can you give me some prices?

I paid about $5 for a 32oz glass (beautiful) bottle. I found a grocery store a little of the main strip. It was a few bucks more in the tourist shops.

Love it, best vanilla I've ever had!:p

Oohhh.. I have to remember to buy vanilla when we go to Mexico. I bought a huge bottle in Ensenada and it's the best!

That's funny! My sister will be in Cozumel tomorrow and I asked her to bring me back a large bottle of vanilla and one of those Mexican blankets.
I'll let you know where she got it & how much it was Friday when she returns.

Thanks everyone!

CPM ~ please do post the info from your sister. I will have limited shopping time in Cozumel due to our excursions and getting the vanilla is a must (plus my 5 sisters have all requested some!!). Thanks again.

Yummmm....I have to say I would have NEVER thought of getting Vanilla. NEVER. But now I think I'll have to add it to the list....or I guess start a list.:D

Can't wait to get some prices and where to buy info.

i know there was a posting about this a while ago, cozumel golf sally knows the details, i think the best was from supermarkets in side streets and was a ridiculous price like a dollar a bottle ?

We walked about two blocks further than the forum shops...away from the ship...and went into Sedano's to get Vanilla and Tequila.

We'll be on the 7/17 Western and I'm driving everybody nuts because the first item on my list in Cozumel is vanilla. I do a very large amount of baking, especially at Christmas and for various bake sales for soccer, basketball, band, etc. and I can't seem to keep it in the house. The last time I bought some at our local grocery store, I paid $5.99 for 2 fluid ounces. I was going to buy extra for gifts for my friends.

Hey you vanilla buyers... Be sure to bring some packing materials to get it home safely (and DCL towels do not count as packing materials!!). My sister brought me home vanilla from Cozumel and it ended up in her tee-shirts and shorts!! But wow did they smell good!!!:hyper:

Thanks emmasgrammy, good thought. I think I'll wrap it up in the soft side cooler and carry it off.

I always get my vanilla at Cinco Soles at the far left end of the strip when your facing it from the pier. I've been very pleased with the quality of it. I got some vanilla as a gift from a different store there(sorry, don't know which one) and wasn't as happy. I just love Cinco Soles. They have great Mexican souvenirs there, too. Pay attention to the sugar content in the vanilla, I believe it varies from source to source.

BearFan ~ can you give me an idea of how much you paid and how large (how many ounces) the bottle of vanilla was? Thanks!

Vanilla would have never crossed my mind. Is it really different than what I buy at the supermarket here? It isn't considered alcohol is it in regards to paying duty?

I heard that cheap vanilla bought in Mexico isn't real vanilla. Has anybody heard about this also? I am a little paranoid about buying things in Mexico because you don't really know what you're getting. I always pass on the vanilla because of this but maybe it is real?? Anyone know for sure? Thanks, Amy:confused:
I found this website...

I'm definitely planning to get some vanilla in Cozumel this September, but what I really want to bring back are whole vanilla BEANS! Are those available along with the vanilla extract? Any recommendations for the best shops? Thanks!

We picked up a 1 liter bottle for around $14.00 at Cinco Soles.

My3kids: Mexican vanilla has stronger flavor and aroma. It makes the best homemade vanilla ice cream!::yes::

Did not count as alcohol for duty.
