Vancouver on Labor Day

I am wondering how traffic is on Labor Day as our Hawaii cruise leaves on that day. I am aware it is Labor day in both our countries that day. Are there parades or anything that could interfere? I'm still trying to figure out if we're driving or taking a shuttle. We live near Bremerton, WA.

You're not going up that day, though are you? You'll go the day before to be safe?

I'd like to go up the day before, but my husband doesn't want to pay for a hotel overnight. We're not set in stone yet, though.

There isn't typically a parade in/around Vancouver, but the border crossing sure will be busy! Traffic will also likely be heavy in downtown Vancouver.

Thanks for the info! I'm figuring it will be heavy traffic. I'm thinking I need to convince my husband to go up the day before.

I agree... Northbound long weekend border crossings between 3pm and 11pm can take a few hours.

Study these links on potential travel times to get idea...

Border lines are a bit like visiting the parks. Everyone knows that you need to get there early, but most people don't seem to do it. I live a few hundred yards from one of the border crossings and even on long weekends the lines don't really start before about 7:30 or 8:00. If you're willing to hit the road super early (like 5 am early) you'll probably be fine. Labour Day is probably one of the best mornings to drive in the city. Everyone gets the day off, but there's nothing really happening. The tourist-y things will be busy and the area right around the cruise terminal may be crowded, but getting in and out should be okay in the morning. Watch out after about noon, though. The routes back to the city will be a parking lot in the afternoon and evening as everyone goes back into the city from the lakes and mountains. People here take their long weekends seriously!

Thanks for the input everyone. I'm still wavering on what to do. We've driven to Vancouver before, it's just been a while and I wasn't sure what the holiday would bring.
