Shushh - what if you started in Vegas? Are the 12 seaters just as elusive?

You could start in Vegas and head towards Zion, Bryce, Escalante, Arches, (Monument Valley, Mesa Verde) and head towards Jackson that way. I know it might be a bit of a longer trek....but that drive is so worth it.

Agree with PIO that it is a possible option for you, but don't worry about Grand Staircase Escalante, as it is only accessible by 4 wheel drive. YOU WILL NOT MAKE IT IN ANYTHING ELSE. Trust me on this one.

We travelled with 7 and got the 12 seater. The extra space was great, it meant for our long drive we weren't all squished. As we all know sitting in the middle seat can be uncomfortable for anyone as there is nothing to lean on or hang on to.

We booked to pick up from the airport. However as we didn't have a no cancel policy we checked a couple of the other booths, we ended up taking a car from a different agency. We had a large suitcase each plus everyone had a carry on of some sort whether it was a small suitcase or a backpack.

with a normal licence drive it or do you need a special licence? What size van requires a special licence, does anyone know? Just worth mentioning we usually hire either a 7 seater or an 8 seater on our trips. The 8 seater has significantly more luggage room.

Who did you end up getting the 12 seater from ? we usually book with carhire3000 , a uk company but they don't seem to have larger vehicles available.

Don't get me wrong....from my perspective, you're more than welcomed...Just wondering if I need to tone down my occasional sarcasm for Americana....

I know it's been a week or so since visting this side. I've never had vegemite and really am not too interested in ever doing so.

This being the Aussie boards, it's understandable the people will have a different take on my country than natives will. Kind of like me not being interested in vegemite, you don't need to be interested in good beer.

No special license needed. In the US you need a special license for vehicles that are more like buses or semis.

Just remember when we told King George to shove off, we had to set ourselves apart from the British and now we drive on the right side of the road.

I am looking for my sister a van rental company who provide van for long trips. She want to go from Texas to New Jersey. The van rental company should provide luxurious facility inside the truck like ac , water, comfortable seats. It would be good if they have license because I don't want to repeat the previous matter.

With regards to insurance - we just got back from our last trip 2 days ago. We booked a large premium car with National for 22 days. The amount quoted on the online booking was exactly what we were charged, US$1276.95. This was a pick up in SFO, and drop off 22 days later in LAX. Insurance included was the supplemental liability insurance, with full CDW/LDW. And we were upgraded to a new luxury car at no extra charge. We were super happy that the rate quoted on line did indeed turn out to be the full and final price ( after being stung with extra insurances when we rented with Thrifty 2 years ago). In future we will definitely use National/Alamo again. And the icing on the cake was that the boot easily coped with the 7 bags that we returned to LAX with (we started the trip with 4, but you've got to love the shopping with the great exchange rate at the moment!).

If you are thinking of the Volkwagon Eurovans it will be hard to find one.

I have a hold of a 7 seater van from carhire300 and i priced all the other sites that people have recommended and they were the cheapest for us, they include all the insurance. Ours comes to 600pounds plus a $250US drop off fee, that is for 19 days rental. I priced national and it came to $2000US, even though our booking is with national but through carhire 3000.

I don't think they have anything bigger than 7 or 8 seater vans. I have never had any problems with carhire. they only use the big 4 companies in the US.
