Value vs Moderate

I would agree with the above if my kids did not practice karate in their sleep... I ended up with feet in my face...

I loved POP other than the bed situation. I just felt very cramped and the miniature pillows did not help in that situation.

I think that since OP is using to staying at a different level, there could be a dissapointment and discomfort in staying at a value... Just my 2 cents.

I totally agree that a room is a place to sleep and shower, but I dont like to sleep in discomfort...

LMAO!!!!!!! OMG the first paragraph made me laugh so hard. Lol!...... Good point you make.

I always stay moderate over value. I have stayed at every value resort and the best thing about them are the food courts. They have the best selection for sure, however I like many other stay moderate due to the fact it just "feels" better. When we do plan a value our family ALWAYS says "why did we choose this?" Also last I knew the value pools are not heated if it matters. I also wanted to remind you that you will get what you pay for!! Just my thoughts. My vote is for Poly.

Sorry but thats not correct. The value pools are in fact heated!

Hi
I really love both resorts. I hate to bash Pop since I know I've talked about this on the boards before, but we stayed there last Nov. and the beds were so hard in the 70's section since the rehab. We had to change resorts. I feel so sad that I won't stay at Pop again because of the beds. I really don't remember the pillows being that uncomfortable. I don't know if it was just our section, but the beds were horrible. If anyone stayed in a section with more softer beds, (not hard like the floor) please let me know. I'd love to stay at Pop again. So, I would definitely stay at POFQ. It's a beautiful resort.

I stayed at pop in June in the 50s and at POFQ last Nov - after the refurb for both. Except for the beds being a little bigger at POFQ I found the comfort level similar. Pillows were much more comfortable at POP. Honestly I loved both resorts and would stay at both again. Neither were very big (although POFQ was a little smaller pop is laid out well and easy to navigate). The icons at pop were fun, the staff was awesome, and the pools were great. There was better room service options at pop- several apps, sandwiches, cheesecake etc as well as pizza. We used it once and it was good and fresh. I went to pop thinking I would be downgrading, but as we usually are a one trip per year - 18mo family and this year I was going 3 times we had to cut back on the scale of each trip. It didn't feel like a downgrade though. And the proximity to AOA to access their food court as well was great.

DH and I stayed at Pop this past April when we took our DGD for her first trip to Disney. We didn't care for it. Nothing wrong with it, it just seemed like a cement jungle. Not much greenery or grassy areas (that we saw). Of course, we are FQ lovers, so that probably had a lot to do with it. We love the grounds, food court, bus service and the boat to DTD. I will say that the food court at POP was fantastic! And we thought the double beds would be an issue and they weren't. We slept fine. We were in the 50s building, so it was a bit of a hike to the bus and food court. I hope you can talk your Dad into staying at FQ, but if you can't I think you'll be fine at POP. In fact, DH and I are going back in November and we're staying at POP again. We originally were staying at AoA, but wanted the free dining plan, so we switched. We'll still go over to FQ and visit and use the boat for DTD! Good luck to you!

We used to love POP, and stayed there as we just enjoyed the resort, and used the room for sleeping and showering. (Tried to keep trip costs to a minimum).

The problem, now that we are a family of 4, started to be room size. The moderates just give us a bit more space, bigger beds, fridge etc., and we are now "deluxe once in a while", (Wilderness Lodge being our absolute favorite resort anywhere Disney or otherwise), moderate most of the time, and never value anymore.

I think for the price difference, you are gaining quite a bit with a mod over a value. From the room, to the pools.

I suppose I'm a bit of a resort snob in that I don't care for the value resorts.

To me, they (particularly the All-Stars) sort of have the look and feel of an oversized roadside motel with over-the-top theming that we don't particularly care for (in much the same way that we don't care to put plastic pink flamingos and gnome statues in our yard).

So we much prefer the theming of the mods and deluxes.

Moreover, we value having covered bus stops, a hot tub & waterslide in the pool area and, most particularly, queen beds.

We also like to minimize our risk of being overrun by a large group of unruly teenagers (especially at the resort bus stop).

And we don't care about a food court as we prefer table service dining.

If your dad will be happier saving the money - I'd go with a value and I'd go with All Star Music. It has the fewest rooms of the All Stars. It's not that far of a walk to the food court from just about anywhere, The food court has consistently good food. Sometimes you may have to share a bus w/ Sports or Movies...but a lot of the time you won't have to.

We have stayed there twice and our rooms have been very clean both times. The rooms now have mini refrigerators. The beds aren't the most luxurious, but they aren't bad either. The grounds have been well kept.

I would avoid Pop. It will be more crowded and you will feel more crowded (imo).

p.s. If you did end up w/ Free dining you can upgrade from the quick service plan(usually offered to values) to the regular plan for approx. $12/adult/day and the upgrade for children is less.
