Value resort or rent DVC points?

We had plans for a Fri and Sat included in our stay but the cost was TWICE as much per night. I would have loved to have stayed through the whole week though. Instead we scheduled 5 nights at the VWL and then the last two nights at POR. After trying to decide where to stay the last two nights I found myself looking at CR concierge. I had to remember that budget was the entire reason I had those two nights for another resort.

I don't mind the switch. By day 6 we'll probably be tired of cooking and cleaning a kitchen anyway. I'm glad we'll get the 5 nights there though! I'm really looking forward to it.

The DVC member we are working with has been absolutely fantastic. Super helpful, very personable. She gave personal references and a good contract. I have no concerns whatsoever about renting from her. We'd NEVER stay at VWL otherwise. Haven't had the trip yet, but so far I'd recommend renting. :)

I'd book BCV or BWV, especially if you like the Epcot area. BWV is a little easier to book.

So, I figured, I would need a 2 bed villa during dream season, for seven nights at bwv it would be 286 points :confused3

AT 10 a point that's $2860, compared to a $150 a night at por.

I guess no deal for me.

If you didn't mind switching resorts, you could stay at POR for Fri and Sat nights and the rest at a DVC. It just would depend when you were arriving. If you were arriving on Fri, you could spend those two nights at POR, then see if a member could make a reservation for you at SSR or OKW (points at both of these would be less than BWV or BCV, unless you could get a standard view at BWV).

I just cannot imagine the circumstance under which I would want to rent DVC points. If I am going on vacation - I want to FEEL like I am on vacation - that means getting into a made-up bed every night (one I didn't make!!!) - clean towels whenever I want them - having a clean bathroom - having things tidied up - turndown service with my chocolate! - NO KITCHEN and NO WASHING MACHINE - I have those at home and deal with them daily! I don't cook on vacation and I don't want to have to clean up either! HA!

But have good friends who ARE DVC members and they love it - just not my style!

DVC is not for everyone as you are a perfect example...but you need to remember too that DVC has always been considered to be in the HAFH catagory - rather than the Deluxe catagory. Reason being that it's meant to feel as so. That it's a home away from home;) While that was the original concept behind it all though, the accommodations with DVC are not only as luxiourious as staying deluxe, but certain ammenities such as the jacuzzi tub, king bed and having an entire living room are giving you so much space to relax & spread out while on vacation, that it makes DVC accomodations just as good or better than the deluxe ones. These extra ammenities can only be found in suites at the regular WDW resort (minus the in room w/d). But it's kind of a trade off I guess to the housekeeping issues. While it may not be for some because they enjoy daily housekeeping and turndown service and such, us members prefer it to intrusive maids banging on the door early in the morning's to get in to clean and having just a small hotel room as oppossed to a whole small apt. Studio's are smaller too than getting a 1bdrm villa but you still get a larger room than most regular WDW hotel rooms and you get a larger bathroom, kitchenette (w/microwave,frige,toster, sink) and a balcony. Still making it worth the trade off for many of us. But again, it's not for everyone.

I realize too we are talking about non members renting points from members however, the same reasons pretty much apply only it involves not owning DVC yourself. It's still a more affordable option to stay in supurb accommodations as oppossed to a regular hotel room if you don't mind the limited housekeeping. I gave someone an example the other day that involved 2 GV rooms at the Poly in Sept. which is lowest point season for DVC. As it turned out it cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $4,000 for a 1 week stay for the 2 rooms. If she wanted to rent the points instead though for a 2bdrm villa (which would sleep up to 8) she could have rented the points and paid only half of that...quite a dramatic saving's IMO :confused3 and that included the weekend nights renting points. It was still less expensive even so and they wouldn't have had to move.

If the limited housekeeping thing would make you miserable though, again it's not for everyone. But what a great deal for those who don't mind it and it's a win-win for both the renter and the rentee

Hope that gives a little insight as to why someone would want to rent the points though....I guess it all depends on what one's idea of vacation actually is. Some say potatoe (po-tay-toe) some say potatoe (po-tot-toe) . The great thing about WDW is there's something for everyone :teeth: ;)

I don't like cooking either but I do use the fridge and microwave. I don't like doing laundry either but I always ending up doing some so it's great having it free in my room.

I LOVE the whirpool. I love that I can wash my clothes IF I want to. I love freezing my water over night.

I love the balcony and the living room and the king size bed. So even though I don't cook and only do laundry IF I want to, I LOVE DVC. It makes me feel rich even though I'm getting the room for a deal.

I also enjoy not having housekeeping. I like no worrying about my stuff getting touched or stolen. But at day 4, they come anyway for free. You can also pay a little more to have housekeeping. I never do though.

It's all a matter of taste.

I love not having to wash three or four suitcases full of dirty clothes when we get home and I'm tired and don't want to do it. We go home with suitcases full of clean clothes. It's so easy to pop a load in the wash before you go to the parks, then into the dryer when you get back. Plus we don't need to pack as much, we can recycle all those outfits with clean clothes.

We have a king sized bed at home, so when we have to sleep in a smaller bed, we usually split up - and I get our son sleeping with me (he's just a kid and doesn't mind sleeping with his mom). With DVC, we get that king sized bed to ourselves.

My friends are at OKW and it is hard to imagine that is a 'deluxe' type of resort. Maybe some of the newer ones would seem more like it, but I was totally unimpressed with OKW. The pools, the length of walking to bus stops - but we are so spoiled I guess staying at monorail resorts for the most part. As I said - my friends love it - just not for me.
