I got the offer to get the Disney Visa in the mail last week. I swore of credit cards a few years ago and have been using cash since then. I told myself I wouldn't get anymore. So the question is...is it worth it? If I don't use it, I wont accrue points, so are the visa deals really worth breaking my personal "ethics" and getting a new credit card?
Only you can decide if you can handle a credit card and if it's worth it. You can make it work for you but, again, it's up to you.
I didn't necessarily swear off cc's - just on carrying a balance on things I really didn't need in the first place. But I love "getting one over" on Chase. I had my cable bill automatically paid from my checking account every month. Same thing with my cell phone. Then one day, I thought "hmmm, why not earn Disney Dollars?" So, I had my cable and cell phone bills automatically paid every month using my Disney VISA. Then, just as I had done before, I have an automatic payment from my checking account - now just one to VISA instead of the two. No interest paid to VISA. I'm not really out anything except the time it took to set up the payments. But now I get a minimum of $2 per month in Disney Dollars.
I've since expanded my CC to pay my auto and homeowner's insurance payments and anything else that I already have the cash on-hand to pay. For instance, DS is going to the Boy Scout's National Jamboree. I started paying the quarterly installments by check but then saw the cc info section on the remittance form.

There's another $3 DD every quarter!
I now have $92 DD for my upcoming trip in August but I'll probably wind up with $110 or so before we head down. It all adds up! Now, how much in interest/penalties did I pay to get said DD? A big, fat 0!!
Admittedly, you have to be able to control your spending for this to work. If that's not a problem for you, then I say go for it!
