Value of points

Forgive me if this is in the wrong section, or if it has been asked a hundred times. I can't seem to get the search option to work for me right now.

Someone mentioned renting points to me, and I was curious at to what the dollar value is per point. I noticed that many are for rent for 10/11 per point, but what will that point actually buy you? For example, how many points would it take to book a standard view room at a deluxe resort (I know that has many variables, it was just an example).

There are points charts linked at the top of the boards. You would look up what resort you want, what size room, and your dates, and it will tell you how many points per night are needed. Look right under the ad at the top of the board for the link.

But you don't want to use DVC points to book "a standard room at a deluxe resort" - that is not using them for DVC. That is considering trading out, basically, into Disney's resorts, and (1) points are very high and (2) you could only do that at a resort w/o a DVC component to it and (3) it costs an additional $95 to do that. It would most likely cost you more than paying with cash to Disney.

to clarify, you're not actually renting "points."

the DVC owner uses their pts to make a reservation and you are renting that reservation. points themselves won't do you any good as member services (the DVC reservation number) will not even speak to you if you do not have a membership number.

but you do pay for the reservation based on the number of pts required...so if you look at the beach club villas chart for july 2013, a DVC owner could get 7 nights in a studio for 134 pts...so if they were renting pts for $10 per pt, that would run $1340 for the week.

Points have no value. The value is in the stay. Even Disney tells us in our owners documentation that points have no value.
