Value and Trading Issues To Be Resolved

I've noticed that alot of people on the DIS are asking questions about value, if they're not sure of the value of something then they start a thread asking for advice on a trade or something. I myself have done it, and I actually have a couple of questions right now as well.
So I'm starting this thread where VMK players can ask other DIS'ers the value of certain items or if they are making a good trade decision, and hopefully we will get some feedback from the players who KNOW what they're talking about.
I don't mind if the thread does well or not, just as long as a few people are able to get their questions answered and the DIS's thread space stays clear of too many value threads. :thumbsup2

I think I'll start off the questions, with a couple of my own.
-My first question is, how rare is the Tomorrowland Submarine Voyage Retro Pin (5/5)?? A few weeks ago somebody walked into my room when I was just rearranging some furniture and I noticed they were wearing that pin that I know you can't get in VMK stores. The girl could have picked some rare for her pin but she ended up choosing some tiki quest stuff. I don't really like the pin so I thought I'd ask its value and consider trading it, based on the feedback I get.
-My second question is how rare is the DLR Grand Californian Pin? Its the only pin I need to complete my ENTIRE hotel pin set and when I asked someone how much they wanted for one, they said inferno! I didn't think it was worth that much so I thought they were joking, but apparantly she was not. So just how rare is it, and will this pin ever be coming back??

NOTE: I am not intending for this to be a trade thread or a place where players can rip off others. I think I know enough about VMK to have the general sense of what most items are worth. I usually check my threads regularly and if I see anyone trying to rip off another player on this thread then I will try to let the person know if they are about to make a bad decision. Otherwise, feel free to ask any questions about value and hopefully we can get some replies.

Good Luck and Happy Trading!

No one on DIS knows when anything is being released. I see that question all the time and by now I would have thought that everyone realizes that we are just players like everyone and nobody here know the answer to that except the designers and they rarely tell anyone. Even the vmk_host don't know that. It is the boss' decision to do that. The fact that yavn posted the October costumes and which week they will be release in on VMK newsletter is really really rare.

Anytime *any regular player* tells you "so-so" is being release this week or this month, frankly I wouldn't believe them. I'm sure they probably do believe it, but I can't remember a time when something was actually release after a big rumor when around about it. Only believe it if you see it on the newsletter or front page of VMK it's self. And even then they have been late many times getting it out the day promised. I was actually told by a vmk_host in February that rockets couchs would be back soon and as you can see they did not come back.

Yes, DLR Grand Californian Pin is pretty rare. It was a host game pin back earlier in the year, but it has been in the pin trading event this month so I have heard from others. I would try to get it on Saturday in the 5 hour pin trade before I trading anything else for it.

Tomorrowland Submarine Voyage Retro Pin (5/5) is retired but not all that rare anymore. It has been sold in the shops twice and has been in several host games and pin trades over the last year or so. You can probably get it tomorrow in the pin trade too.

What you should do before the pin trade event starts tomorrow is make a complete list of all the pins you have and all the ones you need and keep it by the computer. While it is great to have more then one copy of a pin it better to have at least one of each one. So your aim tomorrow is to collect the ones you don't have if possible. If by some really lucky chance you already have a complete set, then try to collect a second copy of the most rarest of pins to trade with later.

Do you know the hours of the Pin Trade?

EDIT: Found out from my VMKPal: 2:30-7:30 pm

The calendar on the VMK Home Page has not had pin trading listed for this Saturday ever since the new look rolled out.

I have not been able to attend a single pin trading this month so I am hoping it is still on. However, if the homepage is current, it does not look like pin trading is in our weekend!

I would like to clarify something. The DLR Grand California pin was rare (January Host Game Prize) and could get you alot for that pin prior to the trade events in September. Due to the increasing volume of that pin being out there in those trade events, in my opinion the value has gone down. It is not worth as much as it was, but people still do desire it.

I agree with Disvaclub. unless you need the pin for your collection, I wouldnt even pick it as the pin to trade for. I would pick the lion ;)

lol, I do need that pin to complete my collection. Also I'm working my saturday job today from 2:00 pm to 1:00 am, so I guess I won't be getting into the host pin trading events today, aww.Ok now that my questions are answered, does anybody else have questions they want to ask? lol

Again, just to let you know, the pin trading event has not been on the event calendar for the last few days. You are not missing out.

Yes I have a question. My niece and I did WDW quest for her character in person early on in VMK and then lost track of VMK. She never went back to it so we just sort a hung onto the cards. Well I joined recently and lovin it. I had no idea I had anything until a new friend came with me to my room and said I had rares. I would have magics that you cannot get anymore, but they are lost in internet land unless my niece can remember the information she registered with. (I have always warned about giving out personal info online, this time she took me up on it. darn)

I am still pretty (lime) green on what is rare and what is not. I guess mainly it is the lingo. It is still alot like a foreign language to me and I do not exactly understand it all. I am figuring the buyables is a way to give someone money since money is not allowed to be traded correct? Or is it just a way to "sweeten" a trade pot? Or am I wrong. Also is there a list of all the items past and present with their value ratings. I understand value is a bit subjective depending on how bad a person wants said item. But if I could get a rough estimate, I may understand it a little better. There is a person I would like to thank for helping me "get started" and I would like to know what it is I am giving. I know I am asking alot here but I appreciate all the knowledge I will be able to gleen. Thanks.

Danovara,
Hopefully I and some others here can help you out. Ok, first your nieces account. Most accounts through Disney are created with an e-mail account (soandso@whatever.com). Does she still have that e-mail account? If so then I can help. If not it may be lost. If she does then she can go to the disney main web page, not VMK, at www.disney.go.com At the bottom of that screen you will find a link for registering. Follow that link to the next page for lost passwords. There you will have a choice between forgotten passwords or to log in. Choose log in if she has forgotten both her account name and her password. If you get stuck feel free to PM me.

As for trading. No you are not supposed to trade credits. Many people will offer spending sprees. They request the items that can be bought in the stores. As for the items you already have I usually break them down into 4 groups; Beta, retired, rare/quest, and buyable. Beta items usually have the most value (not always but ussually), retired items (there is a lot of retired park quest items out there and almost all are in high demand), and rare/quest (something that has been purchased in the stores for a weekend special or items obtained through a current park quest).

Take a look at some of the sticky pages and find out what items you have. Or ask someone who trades on a regular basis that you can trust to come and take a look at all your items. I may have some free time to help you out if you would like.

Danovara,

There is a sticky at the top of the list of threads called VMK Player's Guide. In there, you will find an extensive list of what was, what is, and what might be, when it was available and how. Aengus also put together a sticky (which is incorporated into the Player's Guide) that talks about what's "beta" - what some people call beta and what really is beta.

For the record, beta was only available during the massive beta testing period of VMK, about two months last year (May through July, I believe). A lot of things came out in the stores, but of course, no one had the credits to buy them since the only ways to get credits during that time were very stingy with them! Some people did get them, and as soon as VMK went "live", they disappeared. Aengus' listing will tell you about which items those are.

Buyables is a term used to describe items that are in the stores. Yes, you are correct in that credits are not to be traded in the game (many people do, though, through a quest machine, another retired item). So, for example, on my thread Sparkle_Cherry and I would determine a value of what I was trading for credits, then she would go and buy items I specified that were available in the stores to equal that amount. I got items I would have bought had I had the credits, and she paid using credits she earned playing mini-games.

When someone specifies that they are not accepting buyables in a trade, that means they only want to trade their item for another item or items. Many people can consistently get significant amounts of credits playing fireworks, for example, so the last thing they want to trade for are credits or buyables. They have specific things they are looking for to complete a collection or create an offer for something very difficult to get, such as inferno magic.

As to recovering your niece's information, if she is under age, her parents would have to have registered with Disney, and her account would be under theirs. The instructions for recovering information, such as birth dates used, are also in the VMK Player's Guide.

Any time you need help with something, either PM me here, or find me on VMK. I am DaraSue. I am usually either playing pirates these days (the fireworks specialists have been out clogging up the top spots and kicking out the rest of us lately!) or in one of my rooms.

The parents don't have to be registered with Disney for a child's acct. The child just has to submit a "parent's" email address upon signing up for their vmk account, in which an automatic email is sent to that address giving the parents three days or so to refuse the child's account, or to call allowing them furthur priveledges (of which I'm not clear, I never did it for my kids). Then the child uses a log in name, rather than email address, as well as their password, to get on. That's only for kids under 13. Over 13 they're expected to have their own email address.

I would hang on to your limited rare, and show your thanks with a costume piece or two next week. They probably bought this weeks as much as they want, and they're not as good as next week will be anyway.

Welcome to DIS and to VMK! Post in the Introduce yourself sticky thread and add your vmk title to your signature so people will recognize you if we see you. :sunny:

I have a question about the purple baseball uniform. I am pretty sure it was a weekend event that I missed where each day you got a piece of the uniform. If not feel free to correct me. My question is is it tradeable and about how many are there out there? I really want it, well the hat mainly since I missed it when it was released. I had a DIS member offer me the hat and the shoes for my 1* Bat Magic. If it is that rare I'll forget about it, one hat isn't worth Bat to me unless it's the purple princess hat of course. So if anyone can shed a little light on this outfit I'd appreciate it.

I also have a question. It's not exactly a value question, but in a roundabout way it sort of is, so I thought I should post it here.

I'm just curious. I know the Organ is magenta, but what colors were the Leota table and the Haunted Mansion Rocker that you got from the retired Haunted Mansion Quest cards?

i believe the table was red.
dunno?
how rare is that haunted mansion clock?

Wow, I just noticed now that people were actually posting on this thread! Lol, I thought this thing was buried under mountains of other dead threads! Hmm, interesting.

About the mansion clock, I've never had one, and I don't know much about in-park values; but I know that most VMK players wouldn't mind a HM clock(understatement of the year).

Anyways I have another question... I finally completed my Hotel Pin set with the Grand Californian Pin and I have had another person accepting an old offer I made on one. I offered two bat magic pins for the DLR Grand Californian Pin and they accepted; if I make this trade I'll have two of the pin. One for trading and one for myself. So what I want to know is who is getting the better deal here?? :confused3

The table was red, the chair was purple.
