DH and I are taking a quick weekend trip. I was thinking of spending part of the day walking around Valley Forge and then part of the day at the mall.

I am not one of the people who usually worries about crime, but I just realized that this is the mall with the shooting. Not sure if the mall will be a good idea.

Also does anyone know is 4 hours is enough to walk around Valley Forge. I just want to make sure that is enough time.

Thanks for any advice.

what shooting? Did I miss something recently?

The one the other day was in Paramus NJ:confused3

It is a big mall so take the necessary precautions to be safe but otherwise we go there all the time and it is safe

Now that makes more sense. When I did a google search for my day it stated that the mall was just opening after the shooting. I know NJ/Philadelphia are sort of close to each other, but it must have given misinformation on the search.

I am not afraid to go to the mall (well it is actually not even a concern now that you cleared it up) I was concerned more about traffic etc.

So that answers part of the question, anyone on how long to walk around Valley Forge?

walking around VF? how long do you like to walk? You can make it as short or long as you want. It is beautiful right now with the trees...

no shooting at KoP. At least not on the local news and I think it would be pretty newsworthy. I was just there yesterday and seemed business as usual.

Lots of stores and choices - some new ones, too. Remember, clothes in PA are non-taxable items.

Totally safe mall in completely generic suburban America.

Valley Forge is beautiful. Assuming you like walking, you could spend 4 hours there. It's not a very big park, and there are plenty of short trails as well.

Yes, Philadelphia is close to the NJ border, but King of Prussia isn't exactly around the corner from Philly, and Paramus is nowhere near Philly - in fact, it's north of NYC. The K of P mall is about 120 miles from the mall where the shooting took place. It's very safe.

The King of Prussia Mall complex is actually two malls, right next to one another. You'll want to have a plan of attack, cause there are something like 400 stores there:

King of Prussia Mall

Of course, traffic in that area can get heavy, particularly on the weekend. If you're going any time between Thanksgiving and Christmas, expect the mall to be absolutely packed.

Now for Valley Forge.....I assume you mean the national park. There are a number of walking and bike trails there, 26 miles of trails, but the park itself isn't really something you 'walk around'. It's about 10 square miles, and landmarks are widely separated. There are bus tours that depart from the visitor's center several times a day. I think they're 90 minutes in length, so that would give you time to go for a nice walk on one of the trails and still be under 4 hours. You can also drive around the park yourself, I think there are audio tours available that you can rent at the visitors center.

To get the most out of your visit, check out the maps and some of the area's history on the National Park Service's site.

Valley Forge National Historical Park

Will you be staying in the K of P area, or in Philly?

It took me almost an hour to very quickly race through Valley Forge in a car only stopping 2-3 times at particularly key spots. I was travelling with a coworker so dropped her off at King of Prussia mall while I did Valley Forge.

3-4 hours sounds like a good visit at a good pace.

By the way, it was amazing being in a place I have read about all my life.

Thanks for all the information. Yeah - I totally see where the mall situation never was near me. Sometimes a google search can go awry. (sp?)

I am really excited about Valley Forge (yes the National Park) and I like to walk but 4 hours would be my maximum.

The 90 minute tour and a few hours of walking is perfect actually.

The mall sounds huge. I just wanted to do a few hours and if I miss stuff that is fine. Sounds like it can really work for us.

Thanks for all the links. We are going on a Friday so it will be busy. But it will be before Thanksgiving so I have that as a plus.

New Jersey is across the Delaware river from Philadelphia and Valley Forge is about a 1/2 hour from Philly.

Valley Forge is technically about an hour- depending on traffic. I used to work in Valley Forge and it took forever to get to Philly- sometimes an hour, and sometimes the regular posted time (20 minutes or so)

I don't know anything about a shooting but King of Prussia is HUGE at least to me haha. We usually take two days to go through it. It's broken up into two malls really.

No shootings in King of Prussia:rotfl: LOL, I agree..that mall is huge! I cringe every time my daughter wants to go there:scared:

OP, Valley Forge Park is also pretty big with lots of stuff to do. The amount of time you spend there depends on what you want to see. If you are into The American Revolution, this is the place to go. I went to an exhibit there (not sure if it's still there) and saw what they claimed was a piece of George Washington's hair and I'm sure you have already researched it but here is a link for you :)

KOP Malll is two Malls the Court and the Plaza.

The Court's anchor is Macy and is smaller.

The Plaza in the other one with Lord and Taylor, Norstroms, Neiman Marcus, Sears, JC Penney. This one is bigger, it has the high end trendy stores and then your typical mall stores as well.

If I was taking someone there for the first time I would take them to the Plaza. Park near one of the nicer anchors.
