i'll be staying at the hyatt grand cypress for a conference.

I just noticed (when reading all the bad reviews on trip advisor) that they charge $22/day for valet parking and $11/day for self parking that is a very long walk from the hotel.

Does anyone know if there are rules in florida regarding charging parking fees for handicapped drivers?

I know that when we park at a disney resort, valet is free when you have a handicapped badge (no matter what state it's from ).

And at universal, they also let me use the valet for free.

so i'm wondering if there is a general policy to this effect, or just the kindness of those two resorts.

Many resorts and hotels all over the US will waive valet parking fees for guests with handicapped parking permits.
There are no laws I m aware of that say they have to.

It's to their advantage to do it - when you think of the grand entry area to the Disney resorts that have valet - there is very little to no parking close by, handicapped or non handicapped. Because of the size of their lots, they could be required to have rows of handicapped parking ( don't have time to look it up right now, but it is a certain number per number of regular spots).
By giving free valet, they can cut the number of required handicapped spots, allowing more spots closer to the front for regular spots.

I know of people at resorts that charge a parking fee who were able to get the fee for valet lowered to the same as self park, wih their handicapped parking permit. Others, who were not alone, got dropped off at the entrance and then another member of their party self parked.

thanks Sue!

i'm going to call the hyatt now and ask them, so that i'll know in advance what to expect.

$11 to self park is really expensive in my opinion (and that's in addition to their exhoritant "resort fee")

i'll see what they say - i could drop my mom off, but she's almost completely blind now, so she would have trouble waiting for me.
My sister, who's also mobility challeneged will be with us so i guess i could drop the two of them off and then self park. That's what i did at the conference two years ago (which was at the buena vista palace that year)..

i've heard it's underground at the hyatt - not a place i want to walk around alone any time of day, but especially late at night (after the halloween party).

well, i'll be wiser when i call.
