Valentine's Gifts For Tweens?

what in the world do tweens get each other for valentine's day? my DD12 was invited to the school's valentine's dance by a boy in her class, and it seems they are now something of an "item". apparently, he's planning to get her a valentine's day gift, but, i have no boys and my nephew is only 5, so i have NO idea what to get a 12 year old boy! he plays drums in the school band and loves video games, that's all i know. does anyone have any ideas? i thought about a gift card to rent video games, but all we have out here in the sticks is movie gallery, and they charge $7.99 each to rent video games!

For this age I would be careful about doing too much too soon. If anything, I would say homemade cupcakes or cookies. I would not be buying a Valentine's gift for a 12 year old. I have a DD16 and I would not encourage the boyfriend/girlfriend stuff at 12.

Boys love to eat. I know my ds13 is a bottomless pit. I would get a bag or a small container, have your dd decorate it, and fill it with candy. You can never go wrong with food or candy for boys.

I agree with the candy or if your DD knows if he has an IPod, get him an Itunes gift card.

oh, cookies or candy would be great! i don't want to encourage a boyfriend/girlfriend thing either, but i didn't want them both to feel bad when he gave her some sort of gift and she had nothing for him. he's a sweet kid, and i've known his parents since they were 4.

I vote candy. I always think of Valentine's day as more for guys to give candy/flowers more than for a girl to give a gift At least that's how it is in my house, lol. DH gives me a little box of candy and I give him a card. Not too big on Vday over here. I do get my kids a little candy though.

12 is TOO young...but I would do the candy and cookies they love anything to eat...

Saying he's getting her a gift and producing one will be two different things. My nephew got his girlfriend a giant red teddy bear that he pilfered from my niece's closet. DD's good friends 'boy friend' (they're 13) tends to give her "found" things. I personally would not go with a gift card, it's too much IMHO especially if you don't want to encourage the boyfriend/girlfriend thing. Homemade cookies, cupcakes or small box of candy seem more appropriate and more in line with puppy love gifts.

I vote for candy. She could fill a small gift back with an assortment of small packages of Valentine's candy or put it in one of those Valentine's tins.

Call me a traditionalist--but Valentine's day is to give tokens of love/like--i.e. chocolates, a card, a silly valentine's stuffed animal--that kind of thing. I never see it (or Easter for that matter) as an alternative to Christmas....so my gifts are focused around dates and stuff with all over it.

Of course for a more "like" relationship--anything printed on such tokens would be more along the lines of liking someone verses passion and love. Don't want to scare the boy away.

this is what i'm thinking....maybe an iTunes card with a v-day card that says "you're cool" or "you're special". DD would be uncomfortable with anything more than that, i think. she's still in more of a "boys have cooties" phase. honestly, i'm puzzled she even accepted his invitation.

I agree with this too. Small heart shaped candy box. You can get them pretty cheap these days. It should come from them not the parents out buying expensive gift cards etc. Heck even the price of a show is crazy.

Besides if it is anything like my 12 year old son , they go though "girlfriends" like crazy. To immature to know any better really. Girls on the other hand want the Valentine and stuff toy....
