Hi,

We live in the UK and are doing the 7 night Eastern Carribean in October.Does anyone reccommend having any sort of vaccinations drugs etc. for the visits to the ports ? I was thinking along the lines of malaria etc. or are the places we are to be visiting ( St. Maarten,St. Thomas ) safe....

Thanks for any help.

I have never read anyone needing any for the Eastern/Western cruises. They may have been *recomended* for the Repo-cruises...

The places you are visiting are safe & you won't be spending much time on the Islands as well.

We have done the 7 night western and the only thing our doctor recommended was updating our tetnus and getting the hep a and b. Those are recommended for adults anyway..so we are good to go now.

That was all that was recommended for the 14 night through panama canal also. Malaria was not recommended nor required for that long cruise.

Tetnus is a good one to keep current. It's good for 10 years.

We carry our own water off of the ship and we never have eaten off of the ship - even on DCL excursions that include food.

If you don't plan on eating or drinking off of the ship you should not need any other vacinations. We're not planning on eating off of the ship, but our doctor recommended the Hep A shots (it's a series of 2 shots 6 months apart. You have 90% immunity (whatever that means) 30 days after the first shot).
