Vacations this summer

School started on a Friday? Seems counterproductive.

A few years ago a coworker in Florida complained about her kids’ school schedule.
They started on a Friday in mid-August. The last day was the Tuesday right after Memorial Day and its 3 day weekend. Lake Mary, Florida.
yeah, I've always thought that it is weird. And it's only a half-day! I think they look at it like test run or something. I kinda like starting with a shorter day, just so kids can learn the school/schedules, i's not so daunting (kids' high school has over 2100 kids this year, about 600 freshman,) but just wish it was a Monday, and give us the extra weekend! This is middle TN.

Anyone have any vacations planned for the rest of this summer? Changing plans due to Delta variant? We are doing mostly day trips, did our big trip in June when covid was not quite as bad.
Well, we had a big RV trip at the beginning of summer, so we only have a couple of shorter trips planned for later. Up the coast in CA for one, and to Grand Canyon area (not specifically going to Grand Canyon) in September.

No changes planned as distancing in our RV is really no different than distancing at home.

We already did our big vacation this year, Florida. Didn’t seem to catch anything, we are both vaccinated. Really though we were not around a lot of people, stayed in a condo and spent time at the beach. Most social interaction was outdoors.

We did a 5-night camping trip at the end of June, and just today got home from a 5-night stay on Mackinac Island for my 64th birthday. We have another 5-night camping trip planned later this month. The only trip I’m concerned about is the 10-night Celebrity cruise we have booked in January. Hoping they don’t end up canceling it, but will understand if they do. We are both fully vaccinated, plus I had COVID in November, and we think DH had a mild case of it too.

We did our big trip early in the summer, and older daughter moved back to school yesterday so our travels are probably done for the season. I had been thinking about a small trip over Labor Day weekend but the lineup for a local festival was just announced and includes a band younger DD and I really want to see, so we're probably doing that instead.

I have fall and winter travel plans that are very much up in the air because of the ongoing pandemic issues, though. It isn't worth traveling if the things we want to see and do aren't open, so I'm not setting up anything non-refundable until we have a better sense of what the cooler weather will bring and what the government responses are likely to look like.

We leave tomorrow for Bryce, Zion and then Flagstaff for a week.. We are all vaccinated and will mask up in all indoor areas and on the shuttles and airplanes. I am excited but nervous as well. Flying into Vegas but we are staying off the strip and get in pretty late and will leave early on Sunday for Bryce.

We were overjoyed when our national vaccination program got going in earnest and numbers dropped drastically enough that most restrictions were lifted here in Canada including the need to quarantine when returning from abroad. We thought for sure we’d book a vacation right away but alas, air travel is still very complicated with pre-and-post testing requirements and many borders still not open to us. There’s also the ambiguity over whether or not our mixed-dose vaccinations will be accepted and the official government Travel Advisory against cruising has not been lifted.

I guess we’ll just wait a little longer and hope things get simpler soon. For now we’ve got plans to spend some days on BC’s Sunshine Coast and will be meeting family members from Ottawa there at the end of the month. At least I hope we will. One of our national airlines is pulling crazy shenanigans with repeatedly cancelling and rescheduling flights and that’s kind of a nightmare right now.

We just did smaller within the Province trips. We did 3 nights on the Sunshine Coast in July and next week are doing just an over the night trip 2 hours away.

Hopefully next year we will venture out of the province/ Country.

Where are you staying in Vegas? We are looking to do a similar trip next year and want to stay in Vegas for a couple of nights, off strip, before heading out to Bryce, Zion and Arches.

Any smoke up that way? Smoke from the interior fires has been choking us on the other side of the Rockies. It’s weird where it ends up. :(

My sister and I are hoping to go to Spain at the end of September. We're both vaccinated and totally ok with wearing masks everywhere if it's required. A tour of Andalucia.

We got in our 2 long weekend trips this year in January (Cannon Beach, OR) & April (Newport, OR). School starts on Monday so we're done for the year.

We were on the Sunshine Coast in mid July and no smoke. None in the lower mainland right now and we are supposed to get rain this weekend. Felt a couple of drops today.

We're planning small trips that are only a few hours away from us.

Only one big trip near the end of October. Then we're just going to do day trips

We went to Tadoussac with friends and camped a few days this week. We went on a whale watching Excursion there, which was amazing. We also walked around Quebec City, which is basically like home, lol. We are home for the weekend, and going to the beach in New Brunswick next week. Very different plans this year, but trying to take advantage of summer.

We have a lot of smog and smoke from the forest fires here as well, today was the first day the alert was lifted.

We are at the Embassy Suites Convention Center. From the map it is behind the golf course at Caesar's. I chose it because as a family of 6 we only need one room and they have free breakfast. It was much cheaper as well. We will be there less than 14 hours since I plan to leave for Bryce by 8 am.

I just took this past week off and hung out with DD15 at home. She had to take a summer school class due to incompatibility with the whole online school thing. That put a crimp in planning and thinking of something that felt safe was tough, so we just said forget it. We'll survive another year. On the bright side, we have cleaned out almost every closet in the house this week!
