Vacation Toddler Bed - recommendations please

Wow thanks for all the great tips I knew my dis family wouldn't let me down. I love the idea of noodles also the Regalo looks like a good deal. I'm defo more for buying something new and bringing home with me than spending so much on renting. We did the same with a car seat last trip got one at good old walmart on sale for $39.99 they wanted $14 per day at dollar not cost effective on 2 week trip.

We've used an inflatable bed with the raised sides for years. It's small enough that it fits in a suitcase, and my DD loves having her bed to sleep in. We have a large beach towel (with Tinkerbell, or course!) that she uses for a blanket. It's worked well for us. (If you decide to go this route, I would get it out and let your son sleep in it before you go, so he's comfortable in it.) Good luck!

Regular pool noodles tend to be a bit flat for the purpose; my DD still rolled out of bed with that solution. However, I was able to get a couple of thicker inflatable "noodles" at Walgreens in Florida that work beautifully. They are about 8 inches in diameter and since they deflate, you can easily slip them into a bag.

What I did was ask the hotel for an extra flat sheet that I put on over the regular fitted one and tucked in over the noodles. She slept on top of both sheets.

Inflatable beds are fine for most toddlers, but they are a bear to lug around and might cost you to pay for them as extra luggage on airlines. A small battery-operated air compressor can be a Godsend though, especially at the beach. I use ours ALL the time.

We have, and still do, travel quite a lot. I never considered bringing an extra bed for my kids. The sooner they get used to sleeping in a big hotel bed, the better off you'll be. Just my opinion. My kids can sleep anywhere, anytime (as can I!), but my brother's kids, who are on rigid schedules with special beds, etc., can't sleep at all away from home. Makes for very uncomfortable traveling companions!

My DD has always either slept in a pack n play and when she grew out of that, she slept in the big bed at the hotel. We just unfolded the couch (or used a bed if there were two beds) and she slept on it. She's only ever fallen out of bed once. She has a full size bed at home too.

We used a blow-up mattress from Walmart. It is toddler sized. It doesn't have the bumpers, but it has a zip on blanket that holds them in. She is almost 4 now, and even though we are staying at POR witha trundle this time, I am taking this- because she will probably use this. It was only $25-$30

This is what we used too. she sleeps in the big bed at the resort now but we always have the blow up mattress just in case we need it. the blanket holds them in if they are OK with a blanket being zipped around them. My daughter is NOT ok with that lol so blanket was left unzipped. but if she fell off the mattress it was a whopping 6 inch fall so no biggie. A couple pillows there and I bet they wouldn't even notice if they fell out.

and inexpensive, easy to travel with and just convenient

My kids have these. They are Cars ones and really cute. They sleep on them anytime they have a sleepover and sleep well in them. If you 27 mo. falls out of one of these he won't have far to fall. Maybe you could put it against the walls so he can only fall out of one side?

Hi all,
What would you do? I've been looking at the inflatable air beds for kids with the raised sides. Or maybe bed rails on the rollaway. We are from the uk so it would need to be fairly light and small to pack.

Push the bed against the wall. Line pillows up on the edge, or have an older sibling or parent sleep on the side away from the wall.

I'd just use the playpen, especially in a strange place. My kids slept in playpens when traveling, even when they slept in beds at home. Until around age 3 at least or just after.

I would worry about them getting out of bed and exploring and getting into trouble in a strange place.

Last year when we went to florida, my daughter was 3.5 and she just slept in a twin bed in the condo and we pushed it against the wall (with permission from the owners) and then put pillows on the floor. She never fell out.
