Vacation Plans for 2022

We haven't traveled for vacation out of state since 2019; just kept canceling over and over Christmas and spring trips to see friends and relatives back east. I had to fly back to PA to see my Mom three times in June 2021 before she died but otherwise nothing fun. DH thinks he is severely immune compromised (he really isn't!) so we are isolating in our house again and ordering groceries and meds to be picked up just like last year.

We just cancelled our WDW late January trip and now have airfare credits to use before the end of this year. We did spend 5 days in southern Colorado last fall staying at a condo and outdoor sightseeing but it wasn't the same as really getting away and having fun. I'm trying to plan a 3 night sightseeing trip in another part of our state and staying in a condo again this spring but not if things get worse all of a sudden. We might fly to see everyone in June or September but that is really up in the air (bad pun...). I really miss not seeing some of our best friends and relatives since 2018!

Sometimes it feels like we will never really travel ever again :guilty:

End of May week at universal. But driving instead of our usual flying.

have a cruise in June as a backup plan as they have lower numbers of guests.

My son is going to DC in April with his band and with omicron over by then hopefully it is a go. My DH and I debated flying to vegas while he is gone but we won’t if we have to mask everywhere. Until omicron we felt so good with our vaccinated and boosted selves!

hopefully A long weekend within a few hoursthis summer - maybe Helen, GA? My parents live in Hilton Head so that’s always the backup plan if everything else goes south.

Aulani in February
Vero Beach in April, possibly switching to a cruise
Camping in Rhode Island in June
Jersey Shore in August

We're in the same boat as you with international plans that I don't think are going to pan out. DD20 will be studying in Ireland this summer so the plan was to fly over at the end of her program and spend a couple of weeks exploring Ireland, the UK, and maybe a short stop in France just for Disneyland Paris. As of right now, between covid and some family issues that have come up recently, I would give that trip maybe a 20% chance of actually happening. I suspect the covid protocols will be acceptable/within my risk tolerance by mid-summer, when we'd actually be traveling, but that we won't know that in time to make plans. Normally for a trip like that I'd already be getting the broad strokes in place and starting to think about details.

We are going to be camping in NV/CA for spring break in March and going to WDW for DD's 21st birthday in Aug/Sept., and we'll have 5 weekends away in Grand Rapids because of DD13's theatre subscription Christmas gift. But beyond that, our plans for the year are very much up in the air. I don't really have a "plan B" in mind for our big trip, which is new to me even for the covid-era - last year's plan B was Alaska in place of a cancelled trip to Japan, which was not a disappointing trade off at all, but I don't know that I'll be able to pull off anything quite so amazing this year. I'm not happy about it, but like I was telling my older DD over lunch today, the "cone of uncertainty" is just too large right now both in terms of covid and my mom's health for me to be able to think about making firm plans for or getting excited about much of anything.

Going staycation. We don’t want the stress with cancelled flights, worrying about everyone’s health before/during/after travel, having to navigate different travel migration procedures going to and from, inflation costs, having to plan and then end up canceling yet again, etc.

No vacations this year, just my DD18’s softball tournaments we travel to.

Disney in February
Las Vegas and Sedona in April
Cruise in May
Hopefully there will be more.

We aren't making any 2022 vacation plans until more of covid is behind us. We have ZERO plans to vacation anywhere they requires a flight during 2022. In May/June we will see how things are going before making any decision on vacation plans for the balance of 2022.

Our last vacation was March 2020 to Spring Training. We were hoping for Spring Training again in Phoenix in March, but the Lock Out may mean covid won't even be a factor, there won't be Spring Training.
Our 40th Wedding Anniversary is in June. Might be nice to go somewhere, but we will have to do a wait and see because my wife still isn't sure she would feel safe.
But another issue I think is where you are in your life. After 40 years of marriage, only 4 weeks vacation a year so you try to pack as much as you can into you time off, raising kids, the last 22 months staying home on vacation has been such a nice change of pace. No rushing to catch flights etc. And a few months into retirement, we are now free to just get up and go, so when conditions improve we can do that. Not like our 42 years of working where we often had to put in our vacation requests 12 to 15 months in advance then cramming everything into a few days.

If summer has a lull, I will be seeing my in-laws and taking my spouse (and fam) to a game convention (and an arts festival) for the 1st time in 3 years (week long trip driving to Pittsburgh/Columbus). I'll also take my kids to 1 day at Busch Gardens and 1 day at historic Jamestowne for a weekend driving trip.

I canceled renewing passports this Xmas with everything that was happening, so staying driveable and CONUS for 2022 again. I am fine canceling the weekend trip, but I would like to get to the inlaws, so if the game convention cancels, I might still make up some sort of PA/OH trip...

Just signed our lease for a Jersey shore beach house that we’ve done the last few years (it’s my siblings, their kids and my mom). Other than that we haven’t done much and don’t see much happening due to covid. Really wanted to do something for my bday in the Spring but not getting my hopes up.

That’s exactly how I feel. Too much of a stress and bother to plan and travel at the moment with ever changing rules. I’ve saved a good chunk of change by not travelling since 2019. So that’s good. :)

Cancun in May for my 50th!! Looking at maybe Dominican Republic in summer

We have take. 4 all inclusive vacations since the shut down. We like the space and protocols in place.

we went to Hershey last summer during the heat wave. We had tix for theGreen Day concert. That was enough of crowds for us for now.
