I am hoping for a 3 night / 2 days at the park trip in May.
I think I may like to try Hojos for the first time since we will have a 4 year old with us and the pool will be fun for her on arrival day.
If I book 3 nights and 2 day non-park hoppers for 2 adults and 1 child the cost comes out to around $1600 through Disney.
If I book separately the cost is less than $1300. ($510 for the room and $750 for tickets)
Am I missing something? Is there a perk to booking directly with Disney that I don't know about?

You are not missing anything, usually booking separately saves you money. Make sure to use the Disboards code at Hojo to save you even more, it's 1000038115

I've never booked a package. I think booking things separately actually saves money and gives you more flexibility.

I don’t think you are missing anything. I book separately as well if I am staying at a Good Neighbor hotel. If I am staying onsite, I will book through Costco Travel, which is the same price as Disney, for the gift card perk.

It's kind of hit or miss, IMO. I've done both. But, I always price it either way and go with what's more reasonable. I went in December and did a Good Neighbor hotel through a Disney package and it was significantly cheaper than doing it separately, probably because they had a "get the third night free" deal going on. (The perks were basically we got our parking for $8 a night instead of $24, and then you get a pin/lanyard and a small discount at a few DTD restaurants. So, it's not HUGE perks or anything.)

So, yeah, if it's cheaper to book separately, do it. The perks do not make a big difference.

I literally cancelled my vacation package booked with DLR yesterday and booked a hotel and tickets separately. For me it was a little more $, but getting a ton of frequent flier points by doing so.

I would always book separately. You are able to earn hotel points and may be able to get a much better cancellation policy if you book the hotel directly through them rather than a Disney package.
