Vacation journal tips for kindergarten

I know it has been said before. Can anyone give me tips(or links to other posts) on making a journal for a kindergarten student. My teacher wants her to write a sentence each day for 3 days at least, on what she did. I seen the guide to magic for kids but should probably just make one.

My daughter will write things such as I went to the Magic Kingdom. I saw fish today. Easy stuff. I am just not creative. Anything that will knock the teachers socks off or will be cool to show friends at school, I think she will present it.

Go over to the Creative DISigns forum. People have blank ones there that you can print out and write in. They have them for different parks, restaurants, etc., with pictures, they look terrific.

I'm not sure exactly what you are wanting but I have taught k-4 before. I would try to find some color pages or a picture of her favorite thing she did that day and color it. Then at the bottom write a simple sentence. Like a picture of Cinderella's castle and write "Magic Kingdom was may favorite park".

I'd stick with sight words, to make it easy on both of you. Google and print out a copy of the Dolch sight words for Kinder, and take it with you.

"I saw a red ride."
"There was a pretty _____."

When ds was in kindergarten, his teacher had him draw a picture every day of his favorite thing that day. Then write a sentence describing the picture underneath. Then she told us to put the drawing on a poster board to share with the class. We also made a collage on the computer of photographs to put on the board.

I teach Kindergarten and think a journal is a good idea and won't take that long each day. I would have her take a picture herself with a disposable camera and write a some sentences about that picture. Have her use those sight words and include number and color words. "I saw three blue birds." is better than "I saw a bird."
I would have her write at least two or three sentences. By the end of the year our Kinders are writing four to five connected sentences so she should be writing more than one sentence by now. (Hope that didn't sound fussy or ugly)

I am planning taking some "fill in the blank" type pages for my girls - more for memory keeping than anything. I am going to make a list of favorites and have them fill it it based on the day's activities. I will also include space for them to draw a picture. I know I may have to help with some of the more complex thoughts, but here are some ideas.

Today we went to ...
I got there by riding the....
The weather was...
I ate at ... for breakfast, ...lunch and ... for dinner.
The best thing I ate was...
The coolest person / character I met today was...
My favorite attraction was...
I liked...the least. I would/would not do it again.
The funniest thing that happened today was...
The best thing that happend today was...

was a website that had kids journalling pages that you could print out, with questions similar to what ginnymack does. In 1st grade my son filled them out completely, and in kindergarten he wrote a couple pages, but we didn't keep up with it that year.

I used several pages from Donatalie's design thread and my little niece did filled the pages out while I was in the shower. They were simple but, great pictures and ideas...McKenna was so happy with hers that she took it to school to show her new teacher...

My kinder made an ABC book on our last trip. Before the trip, I printed a 2 inch letter in the corner of a page of card stock and a few lines like on handwriting paper at the bottom of the page. I had it spiral bound at Staples with a cute cover I found on the disign pages. On the trip, we took 2-3 pictures of things beginning with each letter of the alphabet. Then we glued the pictures to the appropriate page and my daughter wrote "A is for, Ariel, animals, and Aladdin." It turned out really cute and her teacher loved it. She still enjoys going back to look at the pictures we took for her book.

My kids did a page a day with a short sentence or two about their favorite fun thing and we had them choose a fav. "learning" thing. We took pics of both and glued them onto the page. We also collected things from around the resorts...sand in a baggie, leaf, flowers from the ground, pine needles, pinecone, and stapled or glued these in the homemade book too along with a pic of where it was found and a sentence about it. It made a wonderful show and tell and really showed that we were doing education too. 18 years later I still have the book!
