We are renting a house for 7 nights, therefore we don't have to pay the "cleaning fee". My question is does anyone leave a tip anyway? This is our first time renting a house so I don't know what the guidelines are. Any thoughts?
Thanks,

Kimba

I never thought of this...

Anyone?

It is not a hard and fast rule to leave a tip for the cleaners as they are not visiting every day as they would in a hotel but having said that if you feel you would like to then I suggest you put something in an envelope for them and leave it in a prominent position -just make it clear it is for them otherwise they may hand it in to the man co as something they found left behind . Basically you go with your instinct and feeling.

i make my decision on this one on the condition of the home when i get there

if i arrive and all is clean then i will tip as i leave
the last house i rented i had to spend an hour cleaning when we arrived it was so bad that NO i didn't tip then

i think it is a case by case thing

I never thought about leaving a tip. I figure that these cleaning people are not the poorly paid maids you find at hotels who come in each day to pick up after us slobs. They are a cleaning agency sent by the management company or owners to clean for the next occupants.

If they are coming in the middle of your week or every day to clean for you, then tipping is appropriate. If they are only cleaning before and after your stay, it is not neccessary. You don't need to tip housekeeping when you only stay one night in a hotel. If they are providing a service for YOU, tip. If they are doing the work for the owner (changing over the room or condo for another guest), don't tip.
