Vacation home rental question

I have rented through VRBO several times. Found a home in Reunion that would work for us. Have corresponded with the owner. Received paperwork. The deposit and balance are done through Paypal. But, there is a separate form to send credit card information in case there are damages. In the past, there would be a fee that was charged and then refunded if everything checked out ok. Has anybody ever supplied their credit card number directly?

Yes, we've done rentals on a credit card numerous times both for the rental fee and for the security deposit. We've never had a problem.

I came across this and thought it was an interesting approach. It talks about using a credit card gift card instead of a credit card for the security deposit. I have only ever used my credit card in the past and I have had success, but I might try a gift card next time.

Yes. Our first 2 visits to Reunion (through VRBO) we had to supply our credit card # directly to owner. They did not charge us a damage deposit ahead of time but just held our CC number until after our visit. Never had any issues.
