Ok so yesterday we booked a 2 week vacation for next month. I took a look at my running calendar and here's what it looks like:

8/4 - 8 miles in am - I will run this or I might try to do it on Friday evening
8/7 - 3 miles
8/8 - 4 miles
8/9 - 3 miles
8/11 - 5 mile long run
8/14 - 3 miles
8/15 - 4 miles
8/16 - 3 miles
8/18 - 10 miles day after returning, not a miss, I will run this

I'm going to really try to fit in a few of the runs but the vacation is go, go, go so I'm not hopeful. At mimimum, what do you think I NEED to do to be able to do the 10-miles the day after returning or at the very least not lose too much training ground? I'll probably have to shuffle the days around a bit.

Oh, this schedule is a mash-up of several ones. I'm training for a Half on October 13 and the WDW Full. So I do have some leeway in the calendar. I can move some runs and not have a 10-miler on 8/18 by changing my increase, increase, step back weeks.

Also, should I get some compression sleeves for my calves for the flight since I'm doing an 8 mile run in the morning?

Thanks in advance for the advice. :thumbsup2

My thoughts...

First, I am not sure what the weekday goals are (i.e. speed, tempo,..) so I am assuming that the are 'get the miles in' runs. With that, I would drop the Wednesday runs or at least make them optional based on how you feel during the vacation. I would keep the Long run, since it is not that much longer than the weekday runs. I would also put the 8 mile run on Friday to avoid travel day crush. Saying that, I would also drop the Wed 8/1 run.

With regard to the compression socks... For an 8 mile run I would say you will be fine. If the flight is long, get up every 60 minutes or so and walk the aisle.

As info, I travel a considerable amount of the time with business... It is very doable to get all the runs in if you plan and get up early. I try to run in every city that I travel to, even if on a dreadmill. Your tops will get rather crusty after the second run. Rinse them in the shower and roll them in a dry towel. The towel will pull the moisture out and get them suitcase ready - mostly.

Hope this helps - and yep I understand that I am saying run most of the days.

Thanks Coach! I'm going to have to run most days but I will definately miss the 10 miler because I will still be on vacation. I don't fly home until 8/19. I had a brain lapse yesterday. lol I'm too slow to try to get in 10 miles in the morning before heading out for the day. I'll do some though.

Three miles several times on vacation is probably doable. I'll just have to, like you said, get up early to get them in.
