Looking for opinions... In August we are going to Universal only no Disney...Yes, I know blasphemy,Don't want to renew our annuals till December trip. Originally we were Universal first then Ft Lauderdale-Miami. ( DD 17 is wanting to tour The University of Miami) We have switched it around, South Florida first, My mother is in a panic about driving from Souther Florida to Orlando. I would like to do ony half way and stay 1 night at Vero, And break up the ride. It will also be kind of a tricky way to Get everyone to Vero, So far I haven't been able to get anyone to go with me. Does this seem reasonable? How far from Ft Lauderdale to Vero? Is it worth it for one night? ANd lastly what are my chances for 2 rooms either Inn or studios...August 15th? Thanks in advance Lauren:wave2:

I live in south Florida and U of M is about 4-5 hours to Disney. Ft lauderdale is about 4 1/2 hours. It will take you 3 1/2 hours to get to Vero. Take the Turnpike it is a toll road but well worth the money. Look at it this way even if you did stop in Vero you can't lose either way. Waive as you go by Port St. Lucie thats where I live. Have a great trip and let us know how it went. :earsboy:

From Ft Lauderdale to VB using I-95 it is 136 miles( 2hrs). I think you would have a good chance to get rooms at that time.

We have done this drive a number of times - figure about 2.5 hours total time - that is if you can avoid the Vero Beach outlet mall

anyways, I think VB would be a great 2 day/1 night stop and I think you will be fine with the rooms on the day you have in mind

thanks

Hey Twinsmom! We just did the drive from Orlando to Ft. Lauderdale on Friday (took 75 all the way down - got off at commercial blvd exit - took less than 4 hours). It was my sister and I and our 2 daughters who are 2 and 3. Be sure to bring a dvd player - it was our saving grace. Also, if you are going to take the turnpike, there were no good radio stations - we were wishing we had brought some cd's with us.;)

Thanks everybody. I am going to call Member services now and see if I can get the rooms. We did the ride about 8 years ago. The kids all have the hand held Video nows. So we should be ok. I am hoping! Its 5 hours to my Dads of course we have the pull down DVD in our van so that makes that a whole lot easier.
Jaysue, The only thing I will buy is stuff from hale Groves for my Nana. I can't say the two teens won't talk Nana into school shopping though.

Thanks!!!

Very funny Obviously I meant DVD...

I was able to just book this, 1 room on points, 1 using the member discounts. I chose an Ocean View Inn room for both. Is that a better choice if I want to be right near Pools. restaurants etc? Thanks.

*sigh* so much for trading in my old truck for a DVC equipped van. I guess that would be a custom van then? :cool2:

The Inn rooms are what I think of as the 'hotel' building. They are closer to the pool and food, but VB as built really isn't that sprawling.

You're welcome,
Joe
