Booked my seat, using miles, when they were released, 330 days ahead, chose my seat carefully, not at the back by the bar so I could get some sleep, not the front two rows, so any couples could be close together. So got on the flight, all settled down, everyone chatty and friendly. Then the cabin crew member asked if I was alone told her yes. She asked if I was would change my seat so a couple could sit together, one was opposite me, the other was seated by the bar. I politely said no as I didn't want to be by the bar. You would think I'd committed some crime from the looks on everyone's faces. That particular crew member was extremely cold with me after that, luckily she was the only one who was and after an hour she was nice again.
It was a night flight so everyone slept anyway and it was only a seven and a half hour flight. Why are people so entitled that they ask a cabin crew member to request another passenger to move seats because 'they want to sit together'. They would have still been several feet apart anyway.
I don't blame VA or the crew member for this, but, it highlights selfishness.
Still got some nice free lounge wear out of it and dinner and breakfast was very yummy.

Well They were done for staying " put " No need to feel sorry for them . They were " chancing their arm "

I’ve been in both situations. I get why you are annoyed. I really do. It takes me like 4 years to pick my perfectly planned seat on an airplanes. But I’ve also been split up from my husband on long haul flights. Usually I don’t mind in business because we have a divider so I don’t really see him anyway. But last time I was sick and asked to sit next to him so I didn’t contaminate the guy next to me. He refused to switch and, well, karma. Also, you never know who’s asking. My husband got asked to move once and thank god he did because it turned out to be the head of his company who was asking. In the end, it’s VA upper on miles. Could be worse. You could be stuck in economy with the rest of us plebs.

I fly a lot. I have gotten past the things people do or what people ask. But, I will say that I will usually--usually--change if there is a young child that needs to sit next to a parent as long as the seat I am moving to is similar. But, with some constraints. If it is just so some couple can sit together--no. in lay flat seats, on a long flight, I don't want to be on the window and have to climb over someone to get out. I don't want to be next to the baby that is already screaming. i don't want to be next to the crew rest seats that have activity all the time. etc. etc. I also hate when people just think they can move my carry on, above my seat, because they need to try to fit theirs. The airline lets me on first and that means I put my bag above my seat. I really cant help it if you dont like where my bag is, just because you think your bag is more important than mine. Just last week i think, i have my carry on, and a back pack on top of the carry on above me. near the end of boarding, this guy comes on and starts to pull my bags out, and put somewhere ??? until i said, don't move my bags, I mean, come on, and he huffs a little and has to go back a couple more rows to get a spot. Flight attendant actually came up to me after that one and said, I would have done the same, first come first serve......

I know. I'm an airplane snob......

I don't see anything wrong with them asking, but when you said no they should have accepted it gracefully. Sorry that wasn't your experience!
I agree. I have been asked and haven't thought it is a sense of entitlement, just seeing if it is possible. Sometimes I say yes sometimes no, depending on the alternate seat, the length of flight, and time of day.
