wow, nothing like this since Columbine. . . haven't heard much on it, can't stand to watch the News.

My 18 yo daughter is at Tech - I'm completely freaked out. She's safe - spent the morning locked in a chem lab, dorm where the first shooting happend is the dorm next to hers. She's off campus now - spent all morning texting back & forth. I want her home so badly right now. I know she's safe, but still really, really want to go get her.

the death toll at this time is 29 people. Va Tech is very heavily populated with young adults from this area. This very much a very bad tragedy.

WOW, I didn't here about this until now.

Sounds horrible, my pixie dust goes out to those families affected.

I think the total is up to 32 now.

I have a cousin that goes there. We haven't heard anything from anyone yet. I'm really scared.

on my campus we are waiting to hear 1) about a motive to see whether it is an isolated incident or whether it is part of a larger plan to attack university campuses (sadly this is something that we have to think about since 9/11) and 2) what can our campus do to help?

God Bless those poor college kids. College is stressful enough without having to worry about something horrifying like that.
 Prayers

It's so sad, and so scary that things like this happen. I feel so sad for everyone affected by this, and any other shooting.

We're doing a play at school, Bang Bang You're Dead, and it deals with a school shooting.

It bothers me that after the first shooting they didn't lock the campus down. 2 hours later, the second shooting occured killing the majority of the people who died. It broke my heart to hear...I nearly broke down in tears watching the public announcement a little while ago and hearing students being interviewed -- I hate what things are coming to. Oh this is so awful.

My prayers are with the poor people who lost their lives today and the families of the many people killed and injured and of those who will suffer memories of this day.

I find school shootings to be... well this is a bad word for it... but... fascinating. I've been watching CNN all afternoon. I

My deepest sympathy and greatest prayers go out to the victims, their families, the wounded, the community, and every person in the US and around the world that has been troubled by this incident.

Its terrifying.

I hope no more turn up dead.

Its insane that the campus didn't lock down first thing though. It didn't lock down until he made it to another building.

I agree, why wasn't the campus shut down after the first shooting?

I read somwhere, but I don't know if it is true, that the gunman first started shooting in a dorm. Can you imagine being held by a gunman in what is supposed to be the privacy of your own dorm?

My prayers to all the families of all who were killed in the shooting. May all rest in peace.

He did. Then he exited the dorm and walked across campus. The campus was not locked down until he made it into another building on the opposite side.

or so I've heard. don't quote me.

Has anyone watched the footage on CNN.com? You can actually hear the gun shots, and since he's inside at that point, you know that with every shot he's probably got someone. It's so scary . . .

My prayers and pixiedust are with everyone affected by this. :grouphug:

I'm about to.

This is the first chance I've had all day to just sit down and watch it.

So I'm still waiting to hear their reasoning behind not knowing who the gunman is. How is it that they know for sure that he either got shot by authorities or killed himself AND that his first victim was an ex-girlfriend without knowing who he is? Sounds like some serious info is being withheld here.

In any case, my prayers go out to everyone.

IT'S A CONNSPERICEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

Anywho, RIP to all the victims, and best wishes to friends and family of the victims.
