Dh and I will be dining at the V&A chef table in a few months.:woohoo:

Here is my problem - How does tipping work if you are being "served" by the chef? I need to be sure we have budgeted correctly.
How much do we tip? 15%, 18%, 20%??? :teacher:
:scared: Whom does it go to?
Do we include alcohol in the tipping % equation?
:headache:

Do any of you have any advice??

HELP!!!

Thanks~

Ms. H

Every time I've gone we have tipped at 20% of the pre-tax price. This includes the wine pairings.

The Chef's Table is a lovely evening. I just nabbed it at 7 a.m. this morning for later this year -- and can't wait. It will be our 7th or 8th time at the Chef's Table. You will receive wonderful service from your waiter and waitress and likely will be served by the sommelier as well if you elect the wine pairing or order wine separately. You'll also have a toast with the chef or sous chef, but won't actually be served by the chef. We always enjoy the evening so much and appreciate the exquisite service so much, that we typically tip 30% on the pre-tax total (including all wine and other beverages).

I hope you have a wonderful time. We always do!

At the end of your (excellent) meal, you'll get the check just as in a restaurant. Just add the tip as you normally would.

Thanks for all the help...

It definitely helps me plan for the insane amount of money I am going to spend in one place... :scared1:

If my math is correct (and prices don't change!) it will be:

165+165+70+70 = $470
$470 X 6.5% = 30.56
Tip at 25% (or so) = $118
Grand Total = approx $620.00

Does that sound reasonable?

Really looking forward to it!

Your total sounds correct. I DEFINITELY wouldn't tip just 15% at the Chef's Table, or even at the regular dining room at V&A's.

Cheers!

I don't think we have ever tipped less than 20%.

You will receive bill at end of meal, just add the tip on.

Reasonable? No, but correct!:rotfl: Have a great time, I have dinner envy!

Please elaborate? Unreasonable in what way? (No flame, just trying to understand exactly what you mean).

I think the OP was joking, implying that it's not reasonable to spend that much money on a single meal. ;)

I'm so funny in real life, it amazes me that on this board I'm always misunderstood. Yes, I was being silly, I eat at fine restaurants all the time (I once spent $600 on lunch in Las Vegas with KCMiller) I think 20% is proper. I promise no more attempts at humor.:thumbsup2

Awww, don't stop... I thought you were funny! But maybe that's because my husband and I are going to be spending a ridiculous amount of money at the Chef's Table next month ourselves. :rotfl2:

I think your great! Count me in with the food and wine humor. Once dropped $600.00 on a bottle of wine at Commanders Palace here in N.O. and have never regretted it. :lmao: Whats wrong with spending your hard earned money on good wine I say. :cool2:

Reasoanble tip amount? Yes. I hope so!

Reasonable total dollars... Probably not. ;)

BUT... We hope this will be one of the most memorable meals we have ever had and therefore (hopefully) worth the total dollars spent.

this is the first time in almost 10 years DH and i have had more than 1 day together (we get 5!!! in WDW!!!) We know it will be expensive, but so is a day worth of gambling, sight seeing, cruising, etc....

Overall, we are REALLY looking forward to this meal (almost to the point of being giddy) and the cost is almost a non-issue. It is just the price of admission.

Thanks for all the posts.

Sorry! I just wasn't sure if you meant that 20% (or whatever the figure was) was excessive because of the large amount of money, or if it wasn't enough because of the excellent service.

I wasn't even thinking the "reasonable" from who's perspective. Now, in hindsight, it was pretty funny! Sometimes things have to be spelled out for me! ;)

We're dining there for the first time in a few weeks. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing some detail from your post and look like a dope at V&A!
