If I intend to add on a contract later, how important is UY? In regards to reservations, resale, or just in general? I think I'd like an Oct UY. If we plan to travel sept/Oct and April/May, should one be October and one be April or both the same? Thanks.

For the Sep/Oct trip an Oct UY is not a good idea.
For that trip I would look at an Aug UY.
The reason for that would be if you have to cancel a Sep trip at the last minute, you maybe in a position where you will loose the points in place of banking them into the next UY.

If I intend to add on a contract later, how important is UY?

1) UY can be an issue if you need to cancel. if you are traveling late in your UY and need to cancel, it increases the risk that you will lose your pts and get nothing in return for them.

2) if you want to add-on later, you would have to buy the same UY month (either direct or resale). an "add-on" by definition means that both contracts would be under the same membership number.

you can add another contract with a different UY, but it would be a completely separate membership, and not an "add-on."

3) some UY months are more common than others:

so sometimes it's easier to find pts to add-on if you own a common UY as compared to a rare UY.

the banking window closes on may 31 for oct UYs. if you cancel your april/may booking more than a month in advance, you can still bank any current UY pts in that reservation to the next UY. oct would be fine for you in that sense...it would only be risky if you traveled a lot in july/aug/sept. sept trips would be extremely risky with an oct UY.

more info on UY can be found here:

We vacation at WDW between Oct and May so an Oct UY works great for us.

We own 21 contracts at 6 resorts and having one UY makes things really simple.

People do manage more than one UY but unless you have a good reason for it, why bother.

It depends on several factors but one of the larger factors is the number of points you plan for each. I'd make the BEST choice for now as a single contract then decide later how a new contract fits in. For a single contract assuming equal divisions, April will be the best UY for the situation you've described with Feb and Oct being roughly equivalent second choices. Unless you're looking at around 200 in each UY OR you have a large risk for canceling, it's usually best to keep the contracts together (same UY, same people on the title).

UY can be very important if you cancel 30 days or less and the points go into holding. Because those points have to be used by the last day of that UY.

The problem with selecting the right UY is that the one you select today probably will not be the UY you wish you had later.
